foods at 8 months

foods at 8 months

addison is still bf and that is her main source of food.  she has half to a jar of food at lunch and a larger amount at dinner.  she is great at picking at things with her fingers, but im sure its too soon for finger foods right?  lol we havent even started meats or chicken i think the dr said 9 months but i cant remember.  im going to make her some veggies at home, i guess steam them and puree?  im so lost i made calebs but that was so long ago!  i bought her that mesh thing you put food into and they chew and get the smallest amount to pass through, anyone use one?  she hasnt tried it yet.

she has a tooth!! she is scooting on her tummy now to get paper (ding **** loves to try to chew paper!) we are trying to get her in her crib but lately she is waking up so much at night to nurse its pointless to put her anywhere but my bed!  i want her there but dh doesnt. :(    i read that babies that are learning to crawl, or new things will nurse more for the fats for brain development, that makes sense since she is on my boob ALL the time lol.

i am needing to kick it up a notch and lose 10 more pounds.  im 34 pounds down from my 23 pound weight gain, but i wasnt 130 to start with!! or 150 lol.  hey i have size zzzzz boobs!! haha

I'm where you are at.  Jayden is almost 8 months and I don't know what to give him now.  My pediatrician said I can start him on Stage 2 foods but he's not a big eater so he's barely making it through the small Stage 1 container.  He has 2 teeth on the bottom and 2 coming in on the top.  I don't know when I can start finger foods.  I'm afraid he will choke.  Ugh!!!  It seems I have no advice to give....lol.

i started the gerber puffs around that age to get her used to actual pieces of food. up til then she gagged on anything- even the tiniest crumb. those puffs are great because they dissolve so quickly in the mouth. otherwise, keep up the purees/babyfood. my ped also had us wait until 9 months to start any meats. you can try just mashing up a banana to see how she does with that. i also had the mesh thing, but dd never really cared for it.

Ethan is 7 months now and I give him most the baby foods available.  I homemade a lot of things at first and I really enjoy doing it, but it is time consuming.  And since I work, it only leaves nights or weekends for me to attempt to do it.  So I give him all stage 2 foods.
I totally forgot that the peds said no meat until 9 months.  I couldnt find the sheet I wrote it on and I saw that it was stage 2 so thought it was cool!  However, Ethan was so sick of the veggies and fruit, so I tried some meat and he loves it.  So he eats one little scoop mixed with veggies at dinner time.  Should I stop the meat since he shouldnt have it until 9 months???
I heard that finger foods are started at 9 months....or once they are able to do certain things.  He has 2 teeth now so I am sure he can do some damage with them, but I think I will wait a few more months!

are there any fruits you should avoid till a certain age?

i read that bananas and avocado are the only fruits that dont need to be cooked first?

i bought some cauliflower is that not a good idea? lol

she is asleep finally! so i guess ill research and see what i come up with.

oh btw, we broke the mesh thing today first time using it, i apparently tightened it too much and cracked it....

I know NO citrus fruits or berries.  Every other fruit is okay.  I havent tried cauliflower or anything like that (broccoli or asparagus).  I have just done Yams, carrots, peas, green beans, sweet potato, and corn.
For the instructions on how and what to cook, I just searched the internet and found a lot of sites that had ways to make them.
I think Mangos and papaya also do not need to be cooked, but you might want to double check.  I have stuck mangos in the mesh thing and he likes it.

I started steaming food for DD to eat at about 7 1/2 month. I would give her small pieces of broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, green beans, butter nut squash, and she has done well with small pieces so far. She never liked purees she would gag if it was mushy but if it was pieces she would eat it. She is a very picky eater now it HAS to be of my plate or she wont eat it:) I just cook her some chicken or vegetables and put them on my plate but if she suspects I am trying to trick her into eating something she shakes her head lol. Also she HATES spoons. If it is off a spoon forget it:) She is 11 months now and she still does not eat much solids during the day, she LOVES her booby juice;)

I also wanted to tell you about something I learned from le leche league. It is called baby led weaning. The basis is giving babies 6 months and older control of what and how much they eat. You would basically cut up food into french fry shaped pieces or cut it up so that they can self feed. I did not totally want to do this with DD but I tried early on to see if she would hold food in her hand and if any would get eaten. She did not do so great at 7 months but by 8 months was able to pretty much pick up a piece of food and eat it. Anyway it may sound crazy to you but if you are interested in reading the material here is a website to check it out:)

My sons pedi said at eight months you should start finger foods. My son likes cheerios,  the gerber puffs, and the lil crunchies which also dissolve in the mouth. I also gave him the biter biscuits by gerber and mum mums(rice husks). he did well with those. I bought some blueberries and pears by gerber is that not okay since they can't have berries? I did not know they couldn't have berries eekk!

Sorry, I didn't have time to read everyones comments. Sorry if I repeat anything.

Jordana eats half a jar at breakfast of fruit. Usually I give her half or more of veggies at dinner. She is drinking some formula to supplement my breast milk. SHe WANTS so badly to eat what the rest of the family is eating at dinner, she screams and cries when watching us. I usually break off a small amount of whatever we are eating(Like crumb size)(ei, bread, pasta or rice) and let her taste it. That usually satisfies her. The only 'finger food' I have given her is small mushed up pieces of banana. She really enjoys that, I think because she is teething, she wants to bite into things. I will probably get some of those dissolvable puffs soon, I think she will like them. She also, is not a huge fan of the pureed baby food.  She would rather sink her 3 1/2 little teeth into a steak or burger, I think, haha. Kidding!

I think berries are okay, just more people have allergies to berries....especially strawberries.  So my ped, just hold off until he is a bit older for those.  I think blueberries are probably okay.  They make it for stage 2 so it cant be that bad...and as long as he didnt have an reaction, like a rash, then I am sure it is fine!
Back in the day people fed their kids everything...and we all survived.  My mom said she had me on meats just before 6 months...she was giving my bro cereal at 1 month.....ahhhh, crazy!

i think i remember my pedi saying 9 months for finger foods as well as citrus/berry fruits/juices. mostly because of the acid in citrus-y fruits and the common allergies to berries. and i do remember them telling me that they are ready for finger foods when they are able to do the "pincher grasp". whether its before or after 9 months.

DS is 9 months now, and I started with the baby food but anymore I've just been giving him what we eat.  He likes to pick stuff up and then he can learn that pincer grasp his ped talked about.  Perhaps its too early- I don't know, he doesn't seem to mind or be hindered by it.  One thing that he really likes are these rice Baby Mum Mum crackers - they dissolve quickly and are actually quite good.  I get them at Wal-Mart, they really help get the "chewing" started without being too much of a hazard.

haha. well maybe she could try pinching a puff or cheerio next time if there aren't any diamonds around to get her attention :o)

i remember the first time edward slept through the night. he was almost a year old! i was up at 3 am listening for him...but there was silence. i think i creid the whole next day.

its so weird when they start to become such little people.
