Did you fail the 1 hour test or did you fail the 3 hour? I had GD with my last pregnancy and no matter how hard we tried to control it with diet, I ended up needing to go on insulin injections. Not fun but we do what we have to do for our babies, right?

Did the doctors tell you if you'll need insulin? Are you checking your own blood sugar? The first step is obviously for you to start following a diabetes diet which, like jifnif explained, is low carb and high protein.

I think it would help us help you if you were a little more explicit with your situation.

i had it. i controlled mine w/ diet.  cut out carbs including:  breads, pancakes, potatoes, sugars.  you can have these things but in very small moderation.  i ate a lot of cheese, nuts, salads, veggies.  i actually am pregnant again now and i will have to watch my diet closely to avoid it again.  you want to eat small meals a few times a day and mix it up w/ carb/protein combinations.  if you eat eggs for breakfast you can have a slice of whole wheat toast.  if you have pasta only have a small amount and eat it w/ veggies and meat.  stay away from fruit that is high in sugar.  google gestational diabetes and i am sure you can find lists of good foods.  :)  remember moderation.

i was also diagnosed with gestational diabetes! I controlled mine with diet and exercise. And I had to check my blood sugars. Most people can get away with that. Good luck to you!!!

Sorry I had to leave yesterday and didn't get your responses until this morning. I have the 3 hour test on Monday so that's when things will be more clear but I wanted to know what I should do right away to help the situation!

thanks ladies!
