good pump

well my baby isnt due till march 1-but i would like to go out and buy a breat pump this weekend-i get 6 weeks matermity leave so i wouldnt have to pump untill 6 weeks later but i ma going to need it for my bf at night when i go to work-i am going to be a first time mom so i just want the best-what do u recomended me to get-i really dont want to spend a lot since iam only working part time and not going back to a full time job-any ideas?? i just hope breastfeeding works out for me-i know it doesnt work out for everyone

The medela is suppose ot be the best (and the pricier) one.
I recommend and automatic one that reproduce the suction of the baby, the one I had from first year sucks and was painful, I had to decompress myself.
Also, you probably should start pumping within the first week and just freeze some milk, just so you had a stash in the freezer for the days you are not producing tons and also if you just pump the day you go back to work, you might not get a lot then and you will stress out

I am not sure about a good brand to buy, but I do know that a lot of doctors rent them out. You could wait until a couple of days before you are ready to start pumping and rent one ... I am sure you could go to the hospital and have them show the pumps to you and explain it earlier. I believe that the ones from the hospital are pretty large, but they pump much faster and tend to be much more productive than other brands. One of the questions you will need to ask yourself is when you are planning on using it (i.e. if you are going to pump at work, you will probably want a more compact pump that is easier to disguise; however, if you are pumping at home mainly, you could certainly take the hospital rental route). The prices vary drastically, and I have always been told that you get what you pay for when it comes to a breast pump, but I can't speak from personal experience yet since I'm not due until July. Lol.

Medela pump in style.  Expensive, but if you are commited to breastfeeding it is worth every penny.  I worked part time and used this pump it was great! And it will last for a long time, if you plan on having more kids.

Depending on your preference, you can always look into buying pumps online (i.e. eBay). My doctor purchased one on eBay with her first child, and she absolutely loves it! She is planning to use it again for the baby she is currently carrying. Best wishes!

I agree about the Medela Pump in Style.  I used mine for just over a year with my daughter and now just getting some parts for better suction for my next DD due next month.  It was worth every penny!

I got a used Medela Pump in Style from eBay for under $100. It works great. Before that I had a $40 Evenflo. That was a piece of junk.

I would wait and buy a pump after the baby is born and you are well established with BF and it is working for you. Good ones, like the Medela Pumps are very expensive and non returnable. Just some advice I wish I had taken, BF did not work for us at all and I ended up wasting over $300 on a pump and accesories.

If you're considering a Pump in Style, please read this first: http://lactinv.com/pytab.htm, especially the part where it says that Ameda is the only one with a closed pumping system that eliminates the risk of milk backing up into the tubing and motor unit which makes it the only FDA approved pump for daily use.
It's cheaper as well, my lactation consultant told me Medela just sells more because they advertise more.
But like always it's a personal thing...
