my infertilityInfertility Infertility - resources Primary infertility clinic nurse told me that they want the progesterone preferably above 15..but definitely above 10. anything under 10 she said they flag ..yours sounds fine..your HCG levels are fine as long as they are doubling every 48 hours or so in early pregnancy. I'm sure everything will be fine! CONGRATS!
I found this on a website, hopefully this explains it better than I can:
If pregnancy occurs, progesterone production increases and the shedding of the lining of the uterus is prevented, preserving the developing embryoCea. As pregnancy progresses, progesterone production is taken over by the placenta and its secretion increases gradually to levels of 300-400mg per day during the third trimester.
During pregnancy, rising progesterone levels prevent the premature shedding of the uterine lining (pro-gestation). If progesterone levels drop due to inadequate progesterone production, then a premature delivery could result, or bring about a miscarriage in the early trimesters.
Progesterone also influences the development of the breasts during pregnancy in preparation for producing milk after the birth. It has an impact on ligaments and muscles throughout the body as well, essentially to allow the suppleness and expansion necessary for giving birth. This also accounts for some of the problems which may be experienced during pregnancy - backache, constipation, and low-blood-pressure, for example.
Although the data are not entirely clear, it appears that progesterone may also have an effect on transport time of the ovum in the fallopian tube, and it may make the ovum more susceptible to sperm penetration.
thank you andrea.. helps a little my doctors chart reads
progesterone
follicular stage-0.2-1.7
luteal phase 1.9-18.8
post menapauseal 0.0-1.4
first trimester- 7.2-43.0
second trimester 21.0-108.0
third trimester 53.0-293.0
my level.. first reading 32.2
That chart seems to be a little off from the others I have seen, the values seem really high. There should be a great range from low to high. Even still, the problem is that the best gauge of hcg levels are 2 tests taken 48 hours apart. One single reading doesn't actually tell you anything by itself. Try to see if your OB will schedule 2 hcg tests 48 hours apart.
I am going in tommorow at 12:oo for my second in 48 hrs. i guess i forgot to tell you that. I am a little nervous, but i havent had anymore "spoting" witch i hope is a good sign. ill post tommorow to let yall know what is up...
I had a beta hcg test on wednesday and it came back low. The date of my LMP was July 29. The beta came back as 387 which is considered really low. My progesterone is fine though. I was retested today. I get the results on Monday. It is going to be a very long weekend. The nurse said it is either that I ovulated later than I though, or this isn't a viable pregnancy. I should be about 5 weeks 3 days pregnant. Any thought???? Thanks.
I am nervous I had a pregnancy test it came back postive and had a blood test and the hcg is 2500 first one, one day before the test was to betaken, then Friday the second test was 2800, then Sunday was 3456, then Tuesday 3800 I did go for an exaim, it was on the 4th week, didn't see anything, looking in my tubes and around my ovairs. He does not know yet what to think I will go back in on Saturday. It could be fine or it could be a bad pregnancy. He could tell me anything, could you please help me. I really doen't know what to expect.
Hi, I found out I was pregnant last Thursday. On thursday they took my blood for an HCG count. My doctor said I was at 6800. (From the chart I think its about 4 to 5 weeks) I had a ultra sound this wednesday and we could see the pregnancy sack but no heartbeat and it wasnt too visable whether there was an embryo yet or not. My doctor said its probably too early but I dont understand why my levels was so high last week. I took my other HCG blood test two days ago and I am going in today for my next test 48 hours later. Hopefully my levels will be going up. My concern is that my HCG level last thursday was way too high for the development seen on the ultra sound. Am I worrying too much? My nex tultra sound is in 13 days. And the anticipation is KILLING me!!! Can you help with anything, any information at all to put me at ease?
Andrea

Hope this helps : )
