having a hard time

by EYF, Jun 10, 2006 12:00AM
I had a m/c a week and a half ago at 17w3d.  I was told to expect to express milk.  I started to 3-4 days after the m/c.  I am having a hard time dealing with it especially since it is still comming out.  ALOT!!!!  I was advised by my doctor to wear a tight fitting bra and no stimulation, not to let warm water to hit my breast as well.  i have followed all the advise givin by my doc but continue to leak all day long.  I am having a very hard time emotionally dealing with this. Any suggestions?

OH I am sooo sorry. A M/c is hard enough without having to deal with this now. My best advice is to use cold compresses and no stimulation. They will dry up. Stay away from beer too. It can trigger more milk production. Please hang in there and know that my prayers are with you!

I know this may sound crazy but I have some old people remedies, such as putting a cabbage leaf in your bra, or taking a cloth with the breast milk on it and burning it. It sounds crazy but alot of people say it works.

I have heard of that cabbage leaf thing, your suppose to freeze them for a bit first, then put them over your breasts. Hopefully this will only take a few days to a week longer, when i stopped breast feeding I think it was about 2 weeks before they didn't leak, and about a month or two to completely dry.

I took an antibiotic for a urinary tract infection, and my milk dried up within 1 day. Unfortunately for me, my daughter was nursing, and i had to stop it to get my milk back. Just a thought though, maybe your Dr. can give you something that dries up milk as a side effect. Sorry I can't remember the exact name, but it started with an "M".

This is my first pg in about 9 years, so I don't remember anything about breast milk. However, I do want to offer my condolences about the m/c. The grief is as sharp as it would be if you had held the baby, I know. I am 16 wks and not expected to carry my baby much longer. I have been grieving for a month now. One day it will get easier on us. 'til then you can always chat with us. Most women here have experienced m/c. My prayers are with you

i am sorry for your loss and all that you are going through.  i would also suggest asking your dr if there is a medication that you could take to dry it up.  my heart goes out to you.

Just another thought, I know for sure there are herbs that dry up milk, but you would have to consult an herbalist because I don't know the names.
