hcg level

by vessel, Aug 27, 2003 12:00AM
After a miscarriage two months ago I think that I am pregnant again. Took a hpt = negative. Had a blood test at my ob and it came up with my hcg level at 4. They want me to wait a week and see if it increases. Has anyone had a similar experience? What does hcg level 4 mean?

I am not sure to an exact science ,but I will say this, I had a miscarriage on the 5th of aug. my hcg was 83 and I was 6 weeks, I went back at 2 weeks to have the labs done again to make sure they were going down and it was below two and she said thats what it should be. So possibly you could be early along and they just want to check and see if your numbers are doubling, your hcg will almost double or more every 48 hrs.  This is just what I have been told and experienced so I hope it helps  alittle, I wish you lots of luck!! My first HCG at 3.5 weeks after the first day of my last period was 17.  It went up for 6 weeks to over 10000.  I had an ectopic confirmed at 6 weeks 6 days.  As of this monday my HCG was 30.  My doc wants to see it 5 or under which she says is not pregnant.  Ideally zero she said.  I'm not sure exactly what it all means. except she told me she wants to see it go to 5 or under.  Hope that helps!

thank you for your comments. I am just trying to figure out if my hcg is a little elevated from the old hormones in my body leftover from the miscarriage or am I pregnanat. Have either of your doctors estimated how long it takes the levels to go below 2? Again I appreciate your information.

I'm not sure, I think everyone is different, It only took mine 2 weeks, and I had a natural m/c. It might be faster if you have a d&c, Idon't know.I think it also depends on how far along you were the first time, the further along you were the higher your numbers will be and then it may take longer for them to come back down. Did they not recheck you hcg level after your first m/c to  make sure they went all the way back down? I'll cross my fingers for you, good luck! Kendra

thanks for the info. I don't think they checked them again after the d&c. The strange thing is my body had felt like it was back to normal and then pregnanacy like symptoms began happening. I feel no matter what I just need to wait and see. I have another appointment next week for a blood test and we shall see...
