heartburn and tums

by myrasue34, Apr 19, 2007 12:00AM
I am wondering if it is safe to eat a couple of tums each day. I have started having some wicked heartburn the last few days. Im also finding myself chugging the water (normally I hate drinking water) which has definitely helped with the constipation. I am 12 weeks along. Im not eating anything fried, spicey, ect. Im eating very healthy, almost all organic foods but I still get heartburn. My mom said she had it with me the whole time. Lets hope this isnt payback time...lol. Has anyone experienced this?

Yes - i did have this and used tums all the time.  No problems at all with my daughter.  And no truth to the rumor of lots of hair on baby's head....my daughter was bald until 1 yrs old.

I also would drink milk...milk and water.  Both helped me.

milk, tums, you can also take Zantac or Pepcid - its perfectly safe.

for me, water makes it worse!

Yep, tums helped me in the beginning, but it could not keep up with my heartburn by the end of the first trimester, and water also made it worse for me, so I would drink milk afterwards when I could, or take more tums.  They actually made me gag though because of m/s, so I called my Dr. and she told me to take Zantac.  Helped so much better till the end, then I could not control it again, but the Zantac still made it bearable.

Tums worked for me but mylanta worked even better.

I ate tums like candy during my pregnancy (well, not really but I did watch the amount I ate during the day) but the  Dr. told me that it's safe to eat as many as you need.

I eat lots of tums, but I find that rolaids work better for me.

Dr advised me to stay away from Rolaids as there is an ingrediant that could be harmful, cant quiet remember what it is...but Tums I eat like candy. I have heartburn when I drink water !
