i have never experienced heartburn before and last night and still this morning it was so painfulPainful menstrual periods i couldn't sleep at all it feels better when i am sitting up but i was just wondering what can you take for heartburn when your pregnant and what works better i can't seem to get rid of it.
Tums is safeSafe driving for teens Safe sex to take for heartburn and it gives you the calcium you need as well. I had really bad heartburn too at the beginning of preg (5 wks - 23 wks). I'm now 29 wks and I still get it occassionally but not as bad. It will get better, just another joy of pregnancy!
I was told I could take ZantacZantac Zantac 150 Zantac 300 Zantac 300 geldose Zantac 75 Zantac efferdose Zantac geldose. Before that I would take Rolaids or Tums with Calcium (and still do at times), however I get a lot more relief from the Zantac... though it takes about 20 minutes to start working. I am currently in starting my 37th week and have been taking Zantac before big meals and if the heartburn is really bad for a couple of months now.
I would talk to your doctor about it though.
Good luck. Heartburn is definitely not a fun thing!
I can only take the Tums "Smoothies" brand. They are not real crunchy like regular Tums, and they taste great! (I got the berry flavored ones)
Also, make sure you're not eating too soon before you lay down at night. Perhaps walk around a bit before sitting or laying down to relax. This will help give the food time to work its way down your digestive tract (which has slowed WAY down due to pregnancy) so you don't feel so yucky. If you take a couple of Tums immediately before or after you eat, it will help, too.
(Milk helps me sometimes as well, but I have to drink Choc. milk!:-)
TUMS is great for me. I've heard TUMS or Rolaids. If you need something more powerful than that you should probably call your doctor about what else to take. I've also heard of drinking some milk (never worked for me though), my sister eats a peice of bread and she says that works for her (worth a try if nothing else works). Don't eat big meals or spicey meals. Also, stack up the pillows at night so you are elevated. I've had to sleep on the couch sitting up it was so bad a few times. Every pregnancy is different, my heartburn started at about 20 weeks but wasn't too bad. But then around 30 weeks it started getting REALLY bad until my baby dropped at 36 weeks it has been fine again.
thanks i actually have my 24 wk checkup tomorrow and i will ask then. i didn't have this problem when i was pregnant with my son i guess maybe b/c i carried him so low. i seem to be carrying this one high i guess cuz this one is a girl she is giving me more problems lol
I would talk to your doctor about it though.
