help this first time mother

by NathansMommy, Nov 12, 2007 12:33PM
My son will be one very soon, but I am not sure that he's eating enough.  How much should a 1 year old be eating?  He's my first child so any comments would be appreciated.

It depends. How much is he eating? When/how often/how much? Is he weaned from breast or bottle?

he's eating 1 cubes of vegi, meats and fruits for each meal with 7-8 ounces of milk added.  In between meals, he'll have finger foods (cherioos or puffs and milk).

Sounds like he's doing fine.  Try not to measure how much fruits, veggies and meats he's eating.  Give him as much as he wants and let him be your guide.

I am still feeding him Gerber 3rd food, should I move on to something else?

by Me2mommy2b, Nov 12, 2007 01:24PM
I never even went to 3rd.  2nd stage was the last one we used.  I started giving her well cooked veggies and very soft fruits and she did fine with those.  If he's chocking, then he's not ready (but I'm assuming he should be fine since he's fine with cherios).

I think table foods are fine at this point for him. Sounds like he's getting enough to me. What makes you question? Is he growing well?

I'm a first time mom too, but have lots of kid experience. I'd say that he's getting enough, but if he's still hungry after eating all that then he needs more! Like Me2 said, let him be your guide! He'll quit eating when he's full!

I also agree that if he's not choking, he is ok for table foods! :)

i think he should be ok with table foods at this point too. i usually do a mixture of both. my son is 10 months. we also went right from 2nd foods to where we are now. i skipped 3rd foods entirely. he gets some gerber graduate meals as well as some of what we eat. he has a lot of teeth already and i cut up meats and vegetables really small and mix everything together with mashed potatos or rice. he likes pretty much everything and now is a good time to give them a variety of foods.
