how long to wait after miscarriage

by lyndsea, Mar 23, 2007 12:00AM
I recently had a miscarriage at 8 weeks and my husband and have decided that we will start trying to get pregnant again as soon as we can. How long should we wait befor trying again?

Well, I m/c in Nov. and was told to wait at least 3 cycles to let my body have a chance to recover.  I have read on here where some ladies were told to wait one cycle and some who were told that they could start trying immediately!  I guess it just depends on the dr.  I decided to wait like the dr said because the m/c was pretty hard on me emotionally and I didn't want to get pregnant again right away and have the same thing happen.  GOOD LUCK!!

I hada m/c in Nov naturally and it took 6 weeks to get my period.  My doctor told me to wait one or two cyles before trying!  But i wanted another baby so bad we started when i knew the m/c was over.  They say some women conceive before there first period after a m/c and i was hopeing that i would be one of the lucky ones!  But i wasn't instead i ended up pregnant after my first cycle and i am now 13w6d and everything is perfect.  No problems!!  But listen to your doctor and go with your gut instinct! I did and like you i was so ready to be pregnant!!  Good luck to you

O my doc told me that she wanted me to wait so that i didnt m/c again and to make sure my body was ready.  I guess that why they say that,  but my second opinion doc told me it's to date the pregnancy! You'll be pregnant in no time!!

Hi. Like the above poster said this seems to be the normal response by the doctor.
If there is no physical reason to start ttc again then, there is no reason why you can't start trying stright away.
I waited for one cycle as my doc recomended. I got pg stright away, it has been emotionally hard but i think this can be the case even if you waited for 3 months or longer?
Just do it when you feel ready. Good luck.

My doctor told me that once I stop bleeding from my miscarriage.....then have a normal cycle afterwards, we would be all set to try again.
Now we didn't get pregnant after that first cycle but we did after the second one :)
Good luck!

You can start whenever you are ready. My Doctor told me that they "suggest" that you wait until you get one cycle, but its not absolutely necessary.

I had a miscarriage last Summer at 6 weeks and got pregnant again before AF ever arrived.  I am now 33 weeks.  They say you are more fertile after a miscarriage.  Good luck to you! :)

I had a MC in November and I'm currently 19 weeks pregnant. I did not have an AF before getting pregnant again within weeks. I was so happy to be pregnant so soon, but very, very worried up until just a few weeks ago. I did not heal emotionally, but I am okay now. Good luck!

My doctor told me to wait 6 weeks. Actually 2 doctors told me 6 weeks. I had a mc on Jan 3, 2007 and became pregnant very soon after, my home preg test tested positive on Jan 31! But unfortunatley I lost the baby at 8 weeks because my uterus rutured. I think its because my body didn't have the time to heal so this time I am waiting. Good luck to you.

I had a m/c 12/22/06 at about 5.5 weeks.  My doctor said to wait one cycle, to heal emotionally and to better date a future pregnancy.  It had taken 6 mos. to conceive that time around, so though we were cautious for a couple weeks, after I THOUGHT I ovulated, we put caution aside.  Surely it was going to take another 6 months this time around!  Well, turns out I ovulated a week late, and we're now 12 weeks preggo today.

Good luck to you.  I'm convinced there is no 'right' answer to this question.

Thanks so much to all who posted advice. It has been really heapful. I never really thought to throw caution to the wind and try when i felt the time was right for me rather then listen to the doctors text book opinion. We do want to try again as soon as we can as it took 6 months to fall pregnant with the first one and everyone is different and different factors are involved. We are going to do what we feel is right for us thanks everyone.
