Ok, it started at about 5 weeks (after lmp). It was brown, and sometimes I found littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys lentil-size bumps in it. Now that was when I freaked out. One dr told me to get ready to miscarry, but they were stupid, since it might have been too early to see the heartbeatHeart palpitations Ultrasound, normal fetus - heartbeat Ultrasound, ventricular septal defect - heartbeat. Later, ultrasound showed a small fibroidFibroid tumors Uterine fibroids close to my cervix, so dr's thought that that was it(since I hadn't miscarried). One day, in the middle of July (I was about 9 weeks) got home and there was bright red blood on the pantyliner=emergency room. Heartbeat nice, baby doing fine, dr could only guess: since the fibroid wasn't there any more, she though I had an irritable cervix, and since there were so many extra veins developing around that area, a sudden movement could have caused bleeding (we hadn't had sex). What I understand is dr's can't tell for sure what causes bleeding, they only guess. What's yours say? As long as it's brown, I would't worry, it means whatever bled is now healing (old blood). Some women experience it throughout their pregnancy. Push your dr for ultrasounds! They saw the heartbeat, right? That's great, really good sign. I would say don't do any extra stuff, not even yoga, I would make sure to leave that area down there alone for a while, and get rest every day. You don't have to sleep, just lie flat, legs up for a few minutes. I often think of you , I know how frustrating it is, and you just feel soooo alone (and helpless) with your trouble. I'll keep you and your baby in my prayers. Let me know what's going on, ok? Love, Ildi
Thanks Ildike! :) No, I haven't had an u/s yet - that is scheduled for the 30th, when I will be 8 weeks. The blood is always brown with no clots or anything, and no cramping. I guess we will know more after the first apt. I stopped taking the progesterone because it hasn't made any difference that I could see, and I think it was making me feel more sick. If I notice the spotting getting worse I'll start back on it, but I just don't want to take anything extra that I don't need right now. Thanks for sharing your story - that really helps. It seems like there are a million and one reasons why one might bleed during pregnancy! Sheesh. HUGS and prayers for you and your little one as well!! :)))
Hey I don't know alot about taking progesterone except that last year my sister had spotting early on in her pregnancy and the doctor put her on the progesterone and told her to stay on it until the bleeding completely stopped.....and then I think she was on it for a little while after that....he said she probably would've miscarried if he hadn't started her on progesterone. If I was you, I'd keep taking it just in case. I will remember you in my prayers.....Keep your head up:)
P.S. Was your prog. level low at your visit? Hers was low and he said that was what was causing the spotting.
No, they have not measured my progesterone, so I don't know if it is low or not. I have read bad things about taking hormones you don't need during pregnancy and I'd rather not take anything I don't have to. Taking progesterone is pretty controversial, although many doctors do it. There are NO studies that show it prevents miscarriage at all, and there ARE studies that show it can effect the fetus.
Like I said, if it gets worse I will probably start taking it again. Thanks for your concern! :)
That is very true, there is actually no proof progesterone helps a troubled pregnancy. In fact I noticed with my last m/c, all the progesterone did was delay the inevitable by a week or more.
Depends on what your doctors thinks, but I have yet to find any medical professional in my life (surrounded by them literally, family is full of them) accept progesterone as a "lifesaver" in a troubled pg.
I agree. As you know Andrea, I was on the prometrium this last pregnancy and in hindsight i really think it may have been better in my specific case if i had not been on it. Who knows, maybe my tube would still be functional now =( If the pregnancy is not viable then progesterone prolongs the inevitable...my doc put it like this "it can't hurt if the pregnancy is viable, but it won't help if it's not"
P.S. Was your prog. level low at your visit? Hers was low and he said that was what was causing the spotting.
