irregular period 4 months after baby(not an "am I pregnant" question)

by ziggysgrl0724, Jan 09, 2009 11:53AM
OK, so Adriana will be 4 months tomorrow, and my period is still irregular.  I get it like every two weeks.  This seems to be my thing, as it happened after my other two pregnancies too.  The only difference is then I went on birth control to regulate, but I REALLY don't want to be on a hormonal birth control method.  DH is getting a vasectomy, and I would just love to stay off of hormonal BC methods......is there any other way?  Will it regulate itself after time?  Or is BC necessary???  Just wanted to add that I am NOT breast feeding in case it makes a difference.  Thanks

I did breastfeed so I'm a little different, but I figured I'd give you my experience anyway.  I breastfed for 10 months until I had trouble producing enough milk.  I didn't get a period for 3 months after that, so DD was over a year old.  It took 7 months after that first one to regulate itself again with no BC.  If you don't want to use BC, you'll eventually regulate.  You just need to have patience, it may be a little bit.

I think unless you want to go the hormone route, time is the only other option. When is dh scheduled for his vasectomy? Remember also that he needs somewhere around a dozen or two dozen ejaculates after the vasectomy to clear out residual sperm, so keep protecting yourself until after that.

Well, I don;t mind waiting it out, as long as it WILL regulate itself eventually.  He is supposed to be getting it done soon...i think there might be a little procrastination there though, lol...I can't blame him.  From now until he's all safe to go its condoms for us.

Gosh, my first thought was breastfeeding, but then I noticed you said you didn't breastfeed. Hmm, not sure what else other than to wait and see what happens. Talk to your doctor about other options. Sorry I couldn't help. Good luck!

Be careful I have been pg twice through condoms.

Unfortunately no one can tell you for sure if it will balance out on its own. My periods took a little while (a few months, maybe 6) to balance out after weaning. It seems like now that I am a little more than 6 months out from weaning they are settling on a pattern of roughly every 6 weeks like they used to be.

I would give it a little more time and then go discuss it with your doctor.
