low hcg levels;early recurrent miscarriage

by Bryn, Apr 25, 2003 12:00AM
I have had three miscarriages (all at 5-6 weeks) and am now pregnant again.  My hcg levels were doubling initially between week 4 and 5, then started only going up by about 35-40% every two days.  They are now at 1140 (I'm at just over 6 weeks) and I have had brown staining and some bleeding for the last couple of weeks but no cramping.  My doctor seems certain that this pregnancy will end in miscarriage or is an ectopic and wants to do a D&C right away.  I don't want to until there is absolutely no hope, has anyone had a similar circumstance?  Can they tell if it's an ectopic just from an ultrasound or is surgery necessary?
Has anyone else had a similar problem with early recurrent miscarriages?

i just had an early miscarriage.  they found out my blood type is O negative.  if you have any negative blood type and your hubby's is positive, then the baby could end up with a positive blood type.  if that is the case, then your body will see the baby as a foreign object and try to miscarry it.  they give you a shot called Rhogam to prevent this.  you might want to have your blood type checked to be sure that is not your problem.  i had severe bleeding with my miscarriage, and i was only about 6 weeks.  hope this helps.

as far as an ectopic pregnancy i am going to tell you what has been going on for  me.  i went to the er with some uncomfortable cramping.  i had been to the ob the week before and they could not find anything in the u/s like they wanted to.  the doctor told me that the baby had died.  then he took hcg levels, and on the ninth they were 45, and when he took them last week they were 1,756.  so then he said that baby was fine and just not as far along as he thought.  then when i went to the er they did another ultra sound and still could not find that baby and had again said that it was dead and just had not passed,.  but when the did my hcg level again they were 26,000.  so then they whoooo you have an ectopic pregnancy, and did the same demanded a d and c,  well for me that is against what i believe in. and so after twelve hours of arguing with three different doctors that were promising me the baby was dead and it was ectopic, decided to send my upstairs to a very high tec u/s. and they found that baby... IN THE UTERUS.  only 3 weeks and two day gestational.  so i have to say that if you feel that there is a chance that your baby is still okay,  DO NOT agree to a D and C.  but also keep in mind that if y ou do have an ectopic pregnancy it can be fatal with in fifteen minutes of rupture of your tube.  so i know that it is hard to make a disciosion.  my advise would be to get a second and maybe third oppinion, but do it soon and quick!! i am so sorry for the stress you are going through, and i wish you soooo much luck, i hope this has helped you!! also look at you hcg levels, with ectopic, hcg rises, just no nearly the rate it should.  please do keep us updated!!!!

Jessica,
my name is maree. I am about 4 .5 weeks. My HCG level was 98, then 4 days later it was 712, then 2 days later it was 1640. I have had some discomfort on my left had side, but the did an ultrasound and it showed the wall of my uterus preparing for a baby. do you know if this count is good if it was an Ectopic pregnancy? can you help me.

My Hcg level was 119.2 miU/ml on the 14th day. It has dropped to 2.5 miU/ml on 24th day. Please suggest what is happening. Is this possible or are there any cases where such situations have occurred??

Earliest reply will be most appreciated
