measuring very small!

measuring very small!

Hi
I just had my doc appoint. today and I am 24 weeks but I am measuring only 19. And at my 19 weeks appoint I was measuring just 3 weeks behind. I know that 1-3 is usually okay but measuring 5 weeks behind seems a bit much. My first baby was big at 9 pounds and Im not a small person so I am worried. Has anyone else experienced this?

Have you had an u/s? If baby looks to be the right size on U/S then I would think everything is ok. If baby is measuring smaller and not growing at the right rate I think there may be a problem. Also just because you are not small there may still be small genes in your family so it is possible to have a small baby. If you have not had an u?s then ask your doc for one at your next visit and let him know you are concerned. Good Luck

babies should stay on their growth schedule and it might be an indication of something wrong with the cord or placenta. It is called IUGR, I would say they need to do another us in a week and kep checks on the baby very close. At some point if the baby just stops growing then being out they have better chances then in in that case. Have they sent you to a high risk dr yet to do a complete scan? Those dr's look for lots more and can tell what is going on and better to monitor the baby

By "measuring," do you mean with a tape measure on the outside of your abdomen, or that the baby is looking small on an ultrasound?  I would not worry if it's only the tape-measure method.

clarification: Yes, measuring with a tape.
And the doc did chart the growth and it has grown since the last time...so i guess as long as it keeps growing that its okay? Is IGUR if the baby stops growing??

Also, I did have an ultrasound at 19 weeks and the baby was 11 ounzes and i think around that time the average is 10 ounzes

If the baby was the right measurements by the U/S then I would not worry about the small measurement with the tape unless your doc has a problem with it or you start experienceing other problems. I always measured a week or 2 behind until after 25 weeks when I poped out. I have wide hips and never even showed with the twins until 23 weeks. Hopefully it is all fine. I am sure you will be complaining about being huge soon enough. Good Luck
