by mommydear, Feb 26, 2008 09:50AM
I am 37 weeks and 3 days along in my pregnancy, I had my membranes stripped yesterday and have steady contractions but not alot of strong ones. I am 2 and ahalf dialated, what can I try to get the contractions and dialation happening.

There are all kinds of supposed things to get labour going, I personally have found that none of them work.  Babies just come when they are good and ready and you are not even due yet.

Try walking.

Can you get your membranes stripped @ 37wks?  When I mentioned to my doc about being induced @ 38wks like the did with my DD, she told me she wouldn't do it until 39wks.  Can stripping your membranes make you go into labor pretty fast or does it take awhile? I was wanting to ask her, but didn't think she would even do it when I am that early.

Sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not.  I know that no responsible doctor around here would do it before you are close to 40 weeks.  The trend around here is to do nothing until 42 weeks gestation.

I think babies just come when they are good and ready and if it is possible, it's best to leave them be.

Yeah, I want her to stay in til she's ready, but I had my DD @ 38 weeks and she was 6lbs 6oz and I tore pretty bad, so I am terrified of having this one any later than 39 weeks, b/c I dont want her to be 9lb...boy would that hurt. I am sure I would tear from hole to hole...not good:(  The doctors around here are pretty much the same.  I had a little bit of high blood pressure with my DD so that's why she did it at 38 wks.

Now that you've had your membranes stripped, I would suggest walking, walking, and more walking.  I had membranes stripped with both my kids and it worked both times, within 24 hrs with DS and within 30 hrs with DD.

My last baby was smaller by more than 2 pounds than the middle child.  So I had no stitches.  I had over 30 with the first two.

However, most people have less difficulty with the second child.  The passage way is well worked in.  There was 12.5 years between my first two.

Thats good to know.  I wasn't sure if this time around was going to be worse or not.  I figured not, b/c my body had already gone through birth once.
30 stitches...WOW!  I can't remember how many I have, guess I didn't want to know..haha!

I wish I had more of a break inbetween the two, but I kinda wanted to get it out of the way ( I don't mean that in any bad way) I am just young and my body bounced back the last time, so I figured why not have them when your young and when you have lots of energy!  They will be only 21 months apart!

I had mine stripped with my second baby and I went into labor within 24 hours, but I was 41 weeks at the time my midwife did it.

I hope your contractions pick up and are productive ones. :)

Good luck to you!

I had mine stripped, without my knowledge, with both of my pregnancies. I had my girls within 24 hours. DH and I had sex. Squats, bouncing lightly and gently on an exercise ball, WALKING. Those kinds of things will help. You'll most likely have a baby in your arms within the next day.
