menstruation after childbirth

menstruation after childbirth

I gave birth to my second child 10 weeks ago and I still haven't gotten my period. I am 28 years old.  I am not breastfeeding.  I didn't have this problem when I had my first child 18 months ago.  Does anyone know if it is normal for it to take this long for menstruation to return afer giving birth?

Consider yourself lucky!!! That is unless you are trying to get pregnant again. I wouldn't worry about it, everyone is different. My doc told me having no period is normal for lots of people. Relax as long as you feel good and in no pain.

Hi - I had my first child 14 months ago and my periods didn't return until 14 weeks after having him.  I didn't breastfeed either.  I had one period then didn't have another for 2 months.  They have been very irregular until the last 3 months when they have returned completely to normal.  I worried, but now realise I shouldn't have.

Hi there

I too was wondering about my periods.  My second child this time around, and I am 27 yrs of age.  After the second child birth I developed an infection called endometris...not to be confused with endometriosis.  Anyhow...It has been about 7 weeks, and I am feeling all the cramping of a normal period, and its been about a week, that i have been feeling this.  My lower abdomen is so sore.  But no period???  Is this normal?

I breastfed for 2 months and got my period at 4 months.  The doctor did not want me to go too long without one because she said it could increase my chances of endometrial cancer, with the lining building up and not shedding.  I was having a lot of pelvic pain- but since its only been 10 weeks, I wouldn't be too concerned.  In a few more weeks if it hasn't come or you are having a lot of pain like I was, I would give your doctor a call.  Its better to be safe than sorry, plus it will ease your worries  :)  Good luck and congrats on your baby!
