When I passed tissue it was grayish in color and stringy.  When I passed the sac it was roundish - you will know it when you pass it.

It is hard to explain, but you can tell that it is not a blood clot. if you further along in your pregnancy 9-10 weeks you will feel when you pass it(or at least that was the case for me).

I would also like to add that if when I had my m/c it was at 9w.  You will know because it does not look like clots all though I had these as well with my m/c.  I mostly passed hugh clots.  I didn't pass much tissue.  The worst for me was passing the sac - once I passed that my m/c was pretty much over.  The whole process took me about 15 days to complete.  That is the start of my spotting and the finshing up of my bleeding.  I got af four weeks later.
