movements at 20 weeks

by vannessa, Jan 15, 2007 12:00AM
Hello ladies! Believe it or not I finally made it to 20 weeks. The problem is that I worry almost as much as before and what I'm concerned about is that my little baby doesn't kick too much. I hear all these stories from ladies, who feel constant movements and all I get is little bubbles once or may be twice per day, usually at night or early in the morning. should I be worried or that's normal for a first time mom? When did you start constantly feeling your first baby?

Thanks.

with my first pregnancy, I didn't even feel my baby move the first time until I was almost 22 weeks.  After that it took another few weeks for the movements to become consistent.  Sometimes it just takes longer, I'm sure everything is fine.

That's definitely normal for a first pregnancy... A lot of people don't feel much movement until they're at least 22 weeks along, and even then, it can vary SO much from person to person based on where the baby is located and the woman's particular body. I began to feel movements much earlier my second time around, but had a very healthy baby my first time and didn't really start to feel much until after 22 weeks, and movements were quite inconsistent from day to day until the end of my second trimester. Keeping count is a good idea, but I'd wait until you're further along since so many of your baby's movements won't be felt at this time... Good luck!

I am 23 weeks and I don't feel movement all the time.  What you are experiencing is totally normal.  Good luck to you!

Yep, totally normal.  :-)

I didn't even feel my DS until 22 weeks, and by 26 weeks it was more consistent.  With this baby, I've been feeling her since about 15 weeks, but again, it was nothing consistent throughout the day until 24-25 weeks.

Hi Vannessa!  How are you!  I'm am so excited that you reached the halfway mark!  Wonderful!  Did you have an u/s recently?  Is it a boy for sure?  I feel movement already but I'm only 15w4d and I only feel it at night when I REALLY concentrate!  I bet you're fine.  I know I'll be the same way though.  Some of these books say you should be counting kicks and all but I don't know when you're supposed to start doing that.

Hi! I just turned 20 weeks too! I'm glad you posted, vannessa, because I've been concerned about the same thing! Congrats, by the way, on making it halfway! I've been feeling movement since 15-16 weeks but it's not often. I'm lucky if I feel it once a day. Sometimes more than 24 hrs pass without feeling anything!! I am just assume that the lil' squirt is moving while I'm asleep and I'm not aware of it! Try not to worry and I'll do the same because soon we'll be feeling kicks constantly! What joy!! Take care! :)
