It's really not a good idea to introduce a bottle until he is 6 weeks old. Also, pumping at this time is not really recommended either. Are you using lanolin cream? If you are still sore you may want to try some different position for feeding him and making sure that most of the areola around the nipple is in his mouth. Also, if you hear a smacking sound or noise from sucking, then reposition the baby by breaking the seal with your finger in the corner of his mouth and try him back to the breast again. The first few weeks are the toughest, it's all downhill from here. Congratulations on your baby and hope you are feeling better soon.

Yea just keep trying, it gets easier. I almost gave up in my 3-4 weeks cause of the same reasons. I also had thrush. U want to hold off on the artificial nipples for now, and its too early to take a break. These are crucial weeks for establishing a good milk supply and a pump cant get you going like your baby can. Babies arent really born knowing how to breastfeed, it takes a breastfeeding pair a lil while to really get the hang of it. Sounds like he is not latching on properly. Google some latch on videos, you will see how it should look and also get good positioning tips. You can also contact your local La Leche League Leader for some one on one instruction. Go to some of their meetings. The support will make all the difference, it will get u thru these tough weeks. Please hang in there, you and your baby will be pros at it in no time and it is so so soooo worth it!!! Good Luck!!!!

I also understand your pain, hang in there it gets better soon! I have heard also not to introduce the bottle until at least 6 weeks old. However have you tried not being in the room when your husband trys the bottle? It may work. Good luck!

I have to say I know what your going through!!!!! My son who I nursed foe  a year WOULD NOT take a bottle EVER! I tried every nipple , every bottle and nope nothing! If your sore you need to make sure your entire nipple is in his mouth...I lucked out and nerver got sore but I had a friend that gave birth at the same time and man I felt sooo bad...it WILL go away! I admire you, you just have to bare with it...Hopefully something works out for you!

I went through the same thing with my daughter. She never took a bottle for the 6 months i nursed her. I think that even then, when she stopped nursing it was becaus I was pg again. Just keep trying. My son took both from birth, bottle and breast. the day after we brought him home i was terribly sore and he had formula for 24 hours. and i had to go back to work then, so he had a bottle while i was gane and nursed when i was home. all babies are different, some will adjust and some will not. I hope it works out for you. just be patient.
