my son is losing hair

by emily&micah, Aug 21, 2007 08:58AM
My 15 week old son was born with a ton of hair on top. I was trying to get rid of his cradle cap with that oil and as I was gently combing the opposite way on his head a ton of hair was coming out. now he's almost bald. I know it’s normal to lose hair in the back, but is it normal to lose it on the top too?

My kids were all born with jet black hair, lost it all to the point of complete baldness, and it came back in white blond.

Go figure.

yea. i think thats perfectly normal. babies who are born with a lot of hair tend to loose most of it and grow back the new hait they will most likely have for life. the same thing you are describing happened to my son. he had a ton oh hair when he was born, dark hair, then got bad cradle ****. i used the oil and comb like you and eventually the cradle cap went away, but he looked like a balding old man. now his hair is still in the process of falling out and regrowing. its much lighter and very whispy. my mom told me the same thing happened to me when i was a baby. so, maybe if your son has dark hair now, his new hair will come in lighter. haha. good luck with your little one.

Yes, it is common--I think even more so with the cradle cap--becasue you are coming it backwards--I know I had the same thing happen with my first son--he has superfine hair so it even looked like hew was bald until he was 1.

NORMAL.  My daughter was born w/a big fluffy head of black hair....I could even put a bow in it.  By five months, she was COMPLETELY BALD, and it grew back blonde.  My son also lost his hair, but the new was growing in as the old was falling out, and didn't go completely bald, but close to it.  He is now four, and has a full head of hair, nice and thick.  I wouldn't be concerned.

The same happened with my daughter she was born with loads of dark hair, i think the scales from the cradle cap hold on to hair which would have fallen out naturally but can't because the folicles are covered up. Obviously you are releasing all the loose hair when you are combing it. (That was my reckoning anyway!!)

My dd had the same deal as peek and pixijal and Ruthiepee...born w/ very dark hair, lost it all to baldness and at 2 she finally has more hair, which is light brown-strawberry blondish..I think it is normal, and and it will grow back...at least he is not a girl and won't be confused as one! My poor dd was bald for so long, she was constantly mistaken for a boy, despite my efforts to keep her in pink and purple all the time...sheesh, some ppl are idiots, lol!
