natural induction

natural induction

Hi everyone!  This is a questoin based on impatience!  I am due this weekend.  I was at the dr on monday and was a fingertip dialated and 50% efaced.  he told me to come back taoday and he was going to "stir up some trouble".  well, all he did was check me again and tell me there was no change.  he told me to come back monday and we would set a date for induction.  i guess i was disappointed today b/c i thought he was going to to do something more like strip the membranes.  I AM READY TO HAVE THIS BABY!  Anyone try to bring labor on themselves?  Any safe suggestions to try?  I know there is no guarantee, but at least it will keep me busy until labor starts or he induces me! thanks!

A few years ago, I went walking with a friend for like 2 hours and within 6 hours she went into labor.

midwives recom. the raspberry leaf tea. It is kind of hard to find, usually health food store or organic sections of grocery stores.  you have to be careful b/c a lot of tea is raspberry flavored.  the correct tea will actually say stuff about a women's system and that it can be used to naturally bring on labor.  i have a friend who swears by it:)

In addition to the suggestions above, I have heard that really spicy food works for some.

when I was pg with ds my midwife told me to have lots of sex, that the chemical makeup of seman is very close to the gel that they put on the cervix to help induce labor- good luck!

I agree with the above post. There is something in the semen that stimulates labor (well can anyway!) I would not suggest the nipple stimulation. My dr's told me it can bring on longer contractions and harder contractions and they're hard to get under control and can put the baby into distress so they don't recommend it. I would say sex and walking is the most "natural" things you can do to try and induce labor! Good luck, hope the baby comes soon!

Primrose oil is the stuff that ripens the cervix, they sell it in gell tabs to take by mouth(good for your skin) but I was told to insert one before bedtime for the last week before my due date, and I did. I also walked a lot, but I would advise any purpose driven long walk to take place in the morning after a full nights rest because I didn't and I know now that sleep is neccisary. I didn't even sleep the next day when I was in early labor, I counted contractions the whole day! There is no reason to do that until you are trying to decide if it's time to go to the hospital. My goal this time is to go to sleep during early labor, maybe go to a movie, relax relax relax! congradulations on being so close!!! let us know.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!  I think i will try walking and look into the rasberry leaf tea.  as far as sex, to be honest, that is the last thing i feel like doing! my dh would love it, but i am so uncomfortable and crabby that i have no desire to even try right now!  my dr did say he would schedule an induction for next week if labor has not started on its own by monday.  so, these suggestions should keep me ocupied until then!  thanks!
