need some advices

Hi there!!!!!!!1 How are all of you? I have been so busy in the couple months, Every thing is fine, The baby is doing ok. He is just a little bit lazy! I am going to start to go for a non-stress-test Tomorrow, doctor want me to go twice a week. I freek out on every little thing happen with me! I am almost 30 weeks now, and I am so happy. The doctor will take the baby out at 37 weeks, so 7 more weeks! I am not scheduled for a c-section yet, but he told me taht we need to do an Amniocestis in the week of june 16 and we will go from there.
I am almost done with the baby stuff and gear, but I had couple things that I am not sure if I will need or no!
I am planning to breatfeed, but do I need the breast pump, and does it really need to be the expenisve one? One of my friend told me about the MEDELA, but it is for 279.99! And do I need bottle and pacifier sterilizer?
How much diaper and wipes I would need for the first weeks? And what are the medicine I need to have before the baby is born, I am talking about stuff like desitin and Balmex.
I am really worried and scared about the idea of the c-section, and I wish I can go naturally, and that my baby will be born before term.
How are you doing? I hope every one is ok and every thing is going well with you all!
Luv you guys!!!!!111

Hi, sweetie. It's good to hear that all's well.  Don't worry too much about the c-sec, many women have such a great recovery.  Medela is a very good pump and I agree, it's expensive but if you plan on breastfeeding, it's worth the money.  I'd suggest renting one for a month or so and see how it goes.  If everything goes well, then definitely buy one.  Bottle sterilizer is not really a necessity but I got one as a gift and love it.  You can sterilize bottles in a boiling water, the good ol' method.  Don't buy too many diapers b/c 1) you don't know which brand your baby will tolerate best and 2) you don't know exactly how big your baby will be.   On average, babies use up anywhere from 8-10 diapers a day.  You don't really need any meds before the baby's born and hopefully you won't be using any for a long time to come.  I'm so excited for you, you're almost there.

If you plan on breastfeeding I would definitely encourage you to get a pump.  The Medela double pump is best.    You may need it to bring down your milk if your lil one doesn't latch properly.  You can actually rent one and pay monthly until you don't need it anymore.  The hospital should have some information on that.  You can boil water and sterilize the pacifiers and bottles in there.  I never used a sterilizer.  Diapers, if you're breastfeeding, I would say your baby will go through a lot.  breastfed babies tend to poop more frequently than bottle fed babies.  I would buy a large box of newborn diapers, too much is never enough.  Same thing with wipes, go for the bulk.  I only used the A & D ointment in the beginning when my son was circumsized.  Other than that I haven't needed it.  I change his diaper frequently so he never gets diaper rash.  However, I heard when they get a bunch of teeth in at the same time they will get rashes.  I would say start with one tube and see what happens.  Have infant Tylenol on hand at all times.  You never know, some babies get fevers when they are a few weeks old.  Good luck and I send you my best wishes for a safe and happy delivery.

Me2mommy is right, I had a huge baby so he wore #1 pampers for awhile but if your baby is small then you may need a smaller diaper.  Try purchasing a newborn size pack and then one size larger to put to the side just in case.  I keep forgetting that my son was abnormally big...lol.

Yay! So glad to finally hear from you! I've been wondering!  If you do breastfeed, the Medela is the BEST.  AS far as diapers and wipes go, I'd buy a pack once or twice a week. That way, you'd have some already stocked up.  I love Pampers Swadlers for lil boys because they seem to work the best!

I agree with Van73, I bought diapers at least once a week and my daughter is now 15 weeks and I finally ran out of my stock. It never hurts to have too many because you can exchange them for the right size. I also love Medela. But I've only used it twice this time around because I'm a stay at home mom I don't have much of a need to pump. I'm so glad to hear that you and the little one are doing great! Lost of well wishes!

Hi, nice to hear from you- I have to be fast because Byrdie has gotten into the grabbing stage and she loves the computer mouse!
I rented a hospital grade pump for $50 per month (medela brand) and had to buy all the parts for $70.  I had supply problems at first and it was a lifesaver.  We live in a small house with no storage so I didn't want to buy a pump I'd only use for a year or so.  Of course, she comes with me to work so I don't have to pump a lot.  I rented the pump for 3-4 months until I was sure my supply was good.  Now when I need milk to make cereal, etc I use the Medela hand pump ($35) and it works ok as long as I'm full, or I pump from one side and nurse from the other.  Check around for rental prices- hospital grade is the best, but remember to add the cost of the parts to your computations.  If you need to pump at work, definitely get the Pump-in-Style.  It's expensive, but it'll be worth it.
I just used soap and hot water, and the Medela bottles are apparently safe in the dishwasher too.
I wish I'd known more about breastfeeding before I gave birth- I assumed that the nurses would show me how.  Well, they did, but only after an hour while dd was bobbing her head on my chest and trying to nurse, and there I was, clueless.  Then the nurse told me wrong so I didn't have good technique right away, which might have contributed to my supply problem.  This is a useful website because it has videos of getting a good latch, etc.  http://www.drjacknewman.com/  Also make sure you see the lactation consultant while you're in the hospital, just for hints and to make sure your latch is good.  Not to make you worry, just something I wish I'd known ahead of time.  Nursing is going great now, it just took a bit more work at the beginning.
I can't believe you're 30 weeks!  How exciting!

Thank you for the great advices! do I need the pump, if I am not going back to work?
my husband doesn't mind to pay for it, but I would like to be sure that I really need it even if I am staying with my baby.which diaper brand is the best? or it is up to the baby skin?
I am going to register in breastfeeding class, Medicaid have them for free, tehy will let me know every things about breastfeeding, and the lady can even come to my home after the baby is born.

Yes, you will need it...trust me.  My son didn't latch on properly in the beginning and I needed the pump to bring my milk down because he wasn't doing it.  Plus, they would sometimes get so engorged that they would hurt so I used the pump to eleviate some of that pressure.  Breastfeeding is very difficult in the beginning so you will need everything and anything that will make things easier.  If he's not adjusting to breastfeeding in the beginning and you want to try bottle, you will need to pump to get the milk out for him to drink.  Unless of course you would want to suppliment with formula.  You don't need the pump forever, just until you and your baby get the swing of things.  I use pampers swaddlers for my son since birth and have really liked them.  You will get varying answers regarding which brand is best.  Try them out and see what fits for you and your baby best.  Good luck.

thank you so much, I was looking on ebay and they have the original medela electric double pump for $200, I think this is not bad!

No that's not bad at all but I would be very careful of the pumps you buy on ebay.  Unless it's completely new I wouldn't take the chance.  A lot of bacteria can form in pumps and shouldn't be used and reused unless of course it's being rented from a reputable place like a hospital.  My hospital even recommended places to me that rent out the pump.

The hospital grade pump is usually written out as a prescription and if you are on medical assistance it should pay for it. I highly recommend the hospital grade. It was $60/month for us and you might find you won't need to use it after the first month or two if you're staying home. Or may not use it at all if baby doesn't have latch issues...but I would recommend it at least for the first month just incase. Good luck and remember we are all here for you if you have questions about taking care of your newborn or breastfeeding.
