negative blood test, postiive home test

by Clarter, Jun 09, 2005 12:00AM
On day 22 of my cycle, they tested my progesterone levels and did and hcg and it was negative.  I probably ovulated on day 24 or 25 of my cycle.  Is it possible that the blood test was inaccurate and didn't catch any hcg at that point.  I had a miscarriage in April, so I am concerned.  Any answers?

Why did they do a hcg test on day 22?  If you ovulated late (day 24/25) that test would have been way too soon.  If you ovulated on day 24/25, I would wait until day 34/35 to even do a hpt or see a DR for a blood draw as you need to wait for implantation (7-10 days after O) to even get a hcg reading.  What day are you on now?  Sounds to me like they tested to soon and you are in fact pregnant!!  Good luck!!  (And congrats!)

yes. very possible it was inaccurate especially if you hadn't ovluated when the test was done. what day of your cycle are you on now?

Everyone must make their own decisions, but if you look on the forum, I just miscarried in Feb 05 at 6 weeks and just again this week (although probably would have never known it). Take it from me, you are going to drive yourself crazy trying to figure it all out and you should just sit back and pray for the best and hopefully you will be blessed with a bouncing baby in  9 months.  I am going to try again and I can assure you I will never check early again.  It was insane and I just think I drove myself nuts!  Good luck and I will have you in my prayers.

It wasn't really my choice to have the test, that is just what my doctor has done since I have had all these problems.  I ovulated on day 14, I'm pretty positive.  Inplantation (implantation) must not have happened yet.  Days 22, 23 and 24 are the days that you have the highest progesterone levels which can indicate pregnancy and ovulation.  They began checking me on those days to confirm that I was ovulating as necessary.

Anyway, I went back in for another blood test.  I am pregnant and my progesterone is getting up there which is good.  If I can maintain a normal level of progesterone and my hcg increases as it should, maybe I will have a normal pregnancy this time.  Thanks for all your kind words.  Keep me in your prayers.
