newborn naps

newborn naps

my son is 6 weeks old, he fights napping. How often should a 2 month old nap? I can get him to take one nap for about 2 1/2 once a day. Other than that he cat naps the rest of the time. Sometimes I cant get him to take a long nap at all.
Also, I need to put him on some type of schedule, I will have to go back to work in a few months. Should I just let him cry to sleep at specific nap times? And if so, how long is to long to let him cry

There is a book out called "The Baby Whisperer" that my cousin and her newborn swear by. It's by Tammy Hoag and basically talks about listening to your baby and his/her needs and working towards being in a routine that is beneficial to you and your baby. It goes something like Eat, Activity, Sleep, You time (E.A.S.Y.). I'm taking liberties suggesting this and that you may not need anything like this but it really helped with my cousin and I plan on using the theory and routine when my baby is born. But everyone is different... you may be able to find more info searching the net for the book or the author. Congratulations and best of luck!!!

My baby girl who is now 5 1/2 months old slept whenever she wanted to.  She still fights her naps. She does take them. I don't know if every baby does this, but a 2 months, mine went through a 'needy' phase.  She wanted to be held 24/7.  I think the average amount of sleep for a baby that age is 15 hours total. (I read that somewhere) I could not get on a schedule till she was about 3 months old. I also have one of those fetal heartbeat bears and that wasn't mush help, but the little aquarium that you hang on the crib seemed to do the trick. (Try turning the radio station to a static channel-that also worked) I also tried putting her down before I really thought she was tired.  I hope this helps.
