newborn questions

hello, we have a month old who is a very good eater and has been seen twice by the ped. for checkups and all is well w/him.  apgar was 9 out of 10 too if that means anything.  i received his birth records and noticed that on his admission exam it said he had a cephalhematoma (my wife said he did have a little cone head which was gone very soon).  on his discharge exam, the doctor DID NOT note the cephalhematoma.  this was one day later.  nothing was ever said to us nor since his recent exams.  i read this condition is a benign bleeding between the skull and skin that resolves on its own.
also, on his blood work taken a day after being born, his RDW was slightly high.  but again the nurses and doctor did not make an issue of it.  i read where this is the size of red blood cells and could be from a lack of b12 or iron.  i just want to hear if anyone else had the same thing w/their child or input from a doctor.  as i said before, he is a good eater (except for gasiness) who gained 3 pounds in a month, seems alert, and seems healthy.  just curious about the two issues i asked.  thanks!

It is most likely nothing, docs will usually mention something if there is reason to be concerned.

It sounds like nothing but when in doubt, always consult your pediatrician.  Good luck.

i think that's what happened to my nephew when he was born... (cephalhematoma)...   i read that it can be caused by a prolonged 2nd stage of labor and that's exactly what my sil went through.  she pushed for a long time only to find out his head was stuck in the birth canal and had to have an emergency c-section and they had to pull his head.  the doctors said it would be fine and heal and it did...  it just felt really weird!  he is 9 1/2 months old now with a perfect head and no problems!!!  :)
