Did the baby also throw up the formula he or she was getting when the mom was not feeding the breast milk?  Or is the only thing the baby threw up the breast milk?  I would call the pediatrician about this or even the ER if it seems like the baby is not getting enough food.

If it only happened once, it probably isn't a big deal but if it keeps happening call or take her in.

Hi,

I have 3 children who also threw up breast milk.  (I have 6 altogether)

The sickness that you mention sounds like projective vomitting which is more common than you think but so scary especially for a first time mum.

They have what is known as Gastric Reflux. Basically the stomach valve is missing so they are sick when milk shoots back up. Its not life threatening and if this is what your baby has then is it easily sorted.

The other thing that might be worth checking out is the tablets can she can them while breastfeeding. Did the doctors ask her if she was feeding?

Hope this helps and hope everything settles soon x
Speak to your doctor and they will be able to help.

3 oz seems like a lot for a newborn to eat all at once...my guess is it was just too much.  My son didn't eat 2oz in one sitting for at least a month so 3oz is a lot.  If it happens with a smaller quantity baby needs to be checked for pyloric stenosis.

good point, sweetangel- my little one took way less than that the first few weeks of her life. I'd consult the pediatrician.
