no kidneys & lungs

no kidneys & lungs

hi ... i'm 28weeks pregnant, i found out at my routine ultrasound to find out what the gender of our baby was that i had low to no amniotic fluid. from that appt. my dr. sent me to maternal fetal.... & that's when my world came crashing down. we were told that the baby's lungs & kidneys did'nt develope & that we should consider termanation. well that wasn't gonna happen. i have hope & faith!! is there anyone out there that has been through this? thanks so much for listening!!

I haven't been through this, but I will be praying for you and I can understand not terminating the pregnancy. Are they recommending taking the baby now? Without amniotic fluid the baby cant strive and grow. Maybe the u/s tech is just wrong or atleast I will pray for that.

Oh gosh, I don't have any information for you but wanted you to know I am so sorry that this has happened, are you having any follow up ultrasounds or further tests?

last yr my sil was determined to have low amniotic fluid at 18 wks. she was also advised to terminate. bil & sil had tried for 10 yrs to have a baby. they decided not to terminate and put it in gods hands, whatever his will. the dr warned of the possible deformaties. i advised sil to just ask god for the strength to understand the outcome. 2 wks later my sil went into labor and delivered a baby boy. he was born sleeping, he appeared to be perfect but so tiny.

you and your baby are in my prayers.

A friend of ours just had a baby delivered with these symptoms too.  She wound up and had trisomy 18 and a diaphramatic hernia as well.  Unfortunately, while she did make it to full-term, she only took one breath.  I would definitely get a second opinion.  Miracles do happen, so also get on some prayer chains.  I will be praying.

Hello, I was also diagnosed with low amniotic fluid when I am 28 weeks (5 cm). How much was yours. I was refered to high risk pregnancy unit and they had me on bed rest since 32 weeks and hospitalized bed rest from 36 weeks. Got induced at 37.4 weeks and now i have perfect baby girl.

I haven't been through this either.  I just wanted to tell you that I am so sorry and keep your head up.  Unfortunately nobody can tell you whether to terminate your pregnancy or not.  I know that I could not make that decision.  I agree with the others that miracles do happen.  Your post makes me want to cry for you.  I can't imagine such horrible news.  You will be in my prayers.

This must be very hard for you. A friend of mine went for an US at about 20 weeks, and the baby had no heart beat. She was induced and had to deliver - an autopsy revealed that the baby had no kidneys. I know this may sound harsh, but I'm not trying to be - would the baby survive if you even managed to make it to full term? Wouldn't that be even harder to cope with after going through the full pregnancy, than if you just terminated now? I guess maybe some more Dr. opinions on the chances of survival and risk of other problems is a must before you make any decisions.
I feel so bad for you. I just miscarried 2 weeks ago, at 12 weeks, but I can't imagine making it to 28 weeks and have this happen. Somtimes I wonder if not being given a choice is the better alternative (if one had to choose). Having to make a choice like the one you are faced with, I can't imagine. Often all there is, is hope and faith. I hope it's enough in your case. I will say some prayers for you that everything works out the best way possible!

I am so sorry for you. That is terrible. I found out last September that my baby had died inside of me at 16 weeks along. It was horrible and heartbreaking. They couldn't determine the reason.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi, I too, am pregnant, (24 weeks) and we went to see a new doctor a couple of weeks ago because the one we had, though he was really sweet, was pretty young and inexperienced.  We wanted to find one that might do v-back.  This is our 5 th baby, and I am 33 yrs old, in school headed toward nursing.  I was planning on how we were going to make this happen with school at the university beginning in January, and having this brand new one. Then, like you, we went to have an ultrasound and the more experienced doctor was extremely concerned as she could not find fluid, and thought she might only see one kidney if that.  We have since had two more opinions from a specialist and a radiologist who is performing invetro infusion- putting fluid in the sack.  I will need to come in weekly for that, but like you I wouldn't do anything to terminate this pregnancy.  It is scary and I don't know why this is happening, but you know what?  I have no control over it. My job right now is too carry on, pray, be a mom, be a wife, be a student, and be a friend.  I am going to enjoy little David Isaac for as long as I can.  God's plans are to prosper us, not to harm us, but sometimes normalcy and health is not how we define it.  Just enjoy your baby.  None of us know what the future holds, and we have to be aware of the fact that doctors are not God.  Don't lose hope.  Just be a mom. know that being a mom does not begin after they enter the world.  It begins now.   I wouold love to hear from you.  I don't know anyone else who's going through this.  Maybe we can be a help to one another.

One more thing... this happens like 1 in 140,000 where the kidneys are absent and everything else is up to speed- although I know you say the lungs are underdeveloped the lungs are technically the last to develop so they cannot honestly know the lungs are doomed quite yet- there is always hope. I also wanted you to know that it was a comfort to me when my docotor told me it was nothing I did.  Nothing I had control over even harming- somewhere in the process of developing those kidneys, the cells just stopped.   They just didn't finish.  He also said it is so rare that the cases he's seen it happen in the family, it does not happen again....

My husbands cousin's baby only has one kidney, it was discovered late on in her pregnancy, the baby is fine, he is six months old now.

I think that with bad news you should always get a second opinion.  It couldn't hurt!  I wish you lots of luck!

I just read David's moms post and now I definatly think you should go in for a second opinion.  What they are doing by injecting fluid maybe something to look into and see if it is worth a try with you!
