no period for 7 months, low hormones, gynecology appointment

Hello everyone,

I am 20 years old (21 this August) and have been having some medical issues for some time now. In short, I haven't had my period since the start of October last year (2009), and being April now thats about 7 months. BUT, I will just give you a bit of background.

It was around mid October last year that I came down with glandular fever (also known as Mono), complete with liver disfunction. I recovered from the glandular fever after about a month or 2 but my liver didn't fully recover until the end of December, start of January. This was the main reason why I didn't go to the doctor for so long, simply because I figured that, at first, this was the reason I wasn't having my period. Which makes sense right?

But, I finally went in to the doctor because I started to get worried. So, in March I went in, because by then it had been about 6 months since my last period, with no signs of it starting again anytime soon.
For the record, I started getting my period when I was about 13. I have always been regular, always been heavy, and every period has always been about the same heaviness. There has never been anything abnormal at all. I have also never been on the pill or anything like that, and I am NOT pregnant.

SO, I went to the doctor, she took a blood test, and found that my progesterone and estradiol (I thinks thats the 2 that she said) were both really low. She said she didn't know why that was so referred me to a gynecologist. Even after a private referral I don't have an appointment until June. By then it will have been 9 months since my last period.
For a couple of months I have been getting what feels like period pain, but obviously, with no period. And recently it has been getting worse, quite painful. I have also been getting all the inflammation that you usually get before your period, but again, worse than normal. Also, this lasts for a long time, goes away for a week maybe and then is back again. I don't know what it is because its not period pain, its in the same area but also seems to affect my whole lower body, and i get REALLY inflamed and sore.
Also, Im not sure if Im just being paranoid but it feels like there is a bit of swelling on my neck. At the front. Like one of my glands are swelled up or something. It feels, odd, and just weird. Not sure what that is.

Anyway, I am simply just sick of waiting around, and I have been reading a lot about premature ovarian failure, and ovarian cysts and thyroid syndromes etc etc and to put it simply, getting myself really worried and I just hope that perhaps someone on here will have some sort of idea that could help. Anything to just make me less stressed for the 2 months before I FINALLY get to see a gynecologist and get some help.

I am so sorry about the length of this post. Thank you already for simply reading it.

Thankyou.

i am having similar problems, i've had a doctor tell me to cut back on chicken and dairy that may have high hormone levels, i was also told not to drink caffeine..I've been off birth control for 3 months, and my laster period was 79 days ago and counting jan. 17th. i haven't been under stress, i've been taking fish oil supplements and eating veggies and fruit and fiber....some how despite my efforts i've climbed from 165 lbs to 179 lbs in just a couple of short months....pregnancy tests all negative. i don't know whats wrong with me, i thought it could be TSH levels or hormonal imbalance - but doctors can't help with hormones, all you can do about that is diet right, exercise and try to relax and not stress. could it be endometriossis or PCOS or  thyroid disorder...with hormones imbalances are a ripple affect, i feel completely hopeless, i have to go in for blood work, on monday, and my pap test came back clean indicating normal on everything! i recently got back on the pill a week ago...we'll see what happens....i will pray for us both....

Thankyou both so much for your support :)
Teddygirl, my sister was off the pill for about 5 months and didnt have her period the entire time. She didnt start getting it again until she went back on the pill, and i hear that happens alot. I hope that thats the case for you *fingers crossed*. But i know what you mean, its horrible not knowing whats going on, and all you can think is the worst :(
The thing is i dont think its my diet or anything. I eat rather well. I do drink coffee but thats only a few days a week, and only 1. I am an Irish dancer, being doing it for 12 years so its not like I dont exercise. I dont overly exercise either. Its so confusing, and just feels like one long waiting game.
