Hi there , Apparently , a lot of doctors or midwives will not even try to find a h/b until week 14 , so as not to worry you unnecissarily. It can be very hard to find , especially at week 11 . So try not to worry , im sure if your doctor thought you had something to worry about he would have sent you for a scan to make sure, but he obviously knows that not finding it at this stage is perfectly normal . The first time my midwife tried to find h/b, i was 13wks 4d and it took her ages !!!!!!! And by the way , the worry doesnt go away !! hahaha Im now 18 wks and still worrying , my next app is on thurs and im anxiously awaiting hearing that little heatbeat again !! Im sure you will be fine , and i hope you have a happy healthy pregnancy ! take care xxxxx

was she looking via ultrasound or with a doppler? if she was just using a doppler, it is common to not hear it yet. using transvaginal ultrasound, we were able to see and hear the hb by 8 weeks. at my 12 week appointment, we were able to see/hear the hb via external ultrasound. But, like i said, if he was just using a doppler, then it's nornal. some dopplers aren't strong enough, and the baby moves so much it can be hard to find the hb with it. also, your placenta could have been blocking the sound. if your dr wasn't worried, i wouldn't worry either. good luck and congrats!!!

Don'y worry, it's completly normal not to hear a HB at that stage.
I have had 2 u/s where i could see the HB but not hear it, the last one being at 13.4wk. I heared it last wk for the first time at 14.4wk. But with my other babies it has been upto 20wks before i heared it, i hear that is also the norm.

My doc said she doubted that she could hear the heartbeat at 10w5d. She was right. No heartbeat detected. She wheeled out the US machine and things were fine. It's still early. I wouldn't worry, but I know that's easier said than done! I was a basket case until I was about 20 weeks!

It is very normal not to be able to find the heartbeat in the earlier weeks. My dr couldn't find mine at 12, 13, and even 16 weeks, and brought in the ultrasound and everything was fine. There are many things that can affect it--position of baby, placenta, baby not holding still, mom's chubby tummy---so don't worry. BUT if it stresses you out, I would ask for a quick ultrasound to put your mind at ease. I really think a Dr should offer this to any woman who doesn't get to hear the heartbeat with a doppler. We shouldn't be expected to be filled with stress for weeks to come while we wait to hear it on doppler.

Hi to Everyone

I took a pregnancy test Friday, March 19th and it came out positive. That following Wednesday I started spotting brown, Thursday it turned into brownish pinkish, and Friday through Sunday I spotted red. Then it stopped. At (8 weeks) I had an appointment w/my midwife and she tried to find the heart beat, the doppler picked up 156, but we didn't hear it.

This past Wednesday I spotted brownish whitish, then a moderate flow of red the following day. Nor Friday nor yesterday was there much of anything. And I only had slight cramps Thursday. I had another appointment w/the midwife Thursday and the doppler picked up 137, 142, and 146. Still didn't hear it though. Has anyone ever experienced this?
