good morning ladies! if you are wondering why i always type lowercase it is because i am always holding my rotten little man in my other arm lol. i bought him a bouncy seat yesterday and he seems to like it. it reclines to 3 different positions, vibrates and plays music. i wanted to give you this website to look at. it is so sad, it talks about the dangers of co-sleeping.(which i am guilty of) she laid on her couch with her baby and woke up to find him behind her suffacated. he was 4 weeks old and so precious. the site is www.in-memory-of-ethan.com  i think if that happened to me i would just want  to die. jacob woke up at 5 this mornng and wanted to get in the bed with me like always but i looked down at that little sweet face and got up and went and got in my recliner and sat there and held hum and let him sleep. i may feel more comfortable when he is older but after reading this i am not for now.

Omg what a sad story ....thats every parents nightmare..I used to co-sleep with my first 2 kids, but I read a similar story when I was pregnant with my third, and just kept my last 2 in a bassinette next to my bed. That way I could still put my hand on there chest, and touch them, but no danger of suffocation.I still have goose bumps...my heart goes out to that mother~

hey just out of curiosity what does your little one sleep in (clothes wise)

dd woke up last night at 1:30am and then again at 3:30am...and the more i thought about it the more i realized the only difference in all the nights that she would wake up in the night and the nights she sleeps all night is what she is wearing.
my dh still likes to put those little baby bag sleepers on her....but i don't think she likes them...when i put her to bed i put fuzzy blanket sleeper jammies on and she sleeps great...but if i put the light weight footed sleeper jammies on she'll sleep all night but she doesn't sleep as sound and gets up a little earlier than usual.
i have noticed that dd like to be REALLY warm when she sleeps that is when she gets her best sleep. (ds has swim lessons 2x a week and she sleeps really well at the pool, it gets so hot in the pool area.)
well just a thought, trying to help you get some sleep. :)

oh and btw the baby suffocating is exactly why i don't keep my children in bed with me (at the infant age, our 4yo sneaks into bed with us and most of the time we don't know he is there until we try to roll over and can't move because there is a log sleeping behind one of us.)  dh actually responded to a call once where the mom had fallen asleep on the couch holding the baby in her arm and shifted toward the baby just enough that it blocked the babies face and suffocated it.  he said that was the worst call he has ever been called to (and the scary part is....he's been shot at, and that baby was still worse for him!)

i usually put either a gown or onesis on him. living in louisiana it is already so warm here i was scared if i put heavy pajamas on him he would get too hot. he seems to be so hot natured. if i try to swaddle him in a blankey you can forget it. he will scream his head off. he likes to be able to throw those arms and legs around. maybe i will try the pajamas though and see. thanks! danielle

nana- what does you dh do?

i work with the medical examiners in mo. we have so many cases of little ones that come to us. when we get one, of course i have to know why. almost everyone is from roll over and suffication by a parent. this is why i will never let my child sleep with me. i know that this is very hard to say beings that my baby is not here yet, but too many little ones leave us too early because of carelessness.

that must be so heartbreaking to see.

by cinnamonheart, May 06, 2005 12:00AM
its true  there are alot of careless mistakes
If you look at half the recalls of baby products it is usually miss use...for instance...
Now the bath sit up chair is being recalled.. babies can slide out or tip it...One mother thought the baby could sit in it safetly..Well who leaves their baby alone in the tub!!!
Or the walkers with the wheels(now banned) kids use to scoot all over the place, well someone left it by a staircase  ummm..dont u think if it was near a staircase you would put a gate there or use it in another room.

As my ds sits in his walker right now eating lunch........
Have they banned them everywhere? Just your state??
Just wondering cause I bought mine about 16 months ago and didn't have any problems getting it. I won't be buying a new on for this baby because I can just use Talons so I've no need to really check, was just wondering.
Also,.......we had company one week (yeah the whole week, I wanted to kill them all by the time they finally left) anyway, someone left the door open to the basement (dh I think, thinking everyone was coming right down behind him....) and the 'company' (two grown adults) just stood there and watched my then 8 month old roll over to the open door and almost go down the flight of steps.......I came back into the house just in time to see two of the wheels off the top steps.....one more little step from ds and he would have been down them.....I took off running and grabbed his walker and just glared at everyone.......what were they thinking??????
Thank God he was fine and DH learned a valuable lesson!!!!!! He's never done it again!!!!!!!

I have a doctors appt (midwife actually) at 3:30 today.....I am 16weeks 4 days. I don't know if I will get an u/s or not.

I'm kinda conserned and will discuss this with my midwife but thought I would post here before I go.......
I have not felt the baby move yet....I know it is still early but this is my 3rd pregnancy.
Also, I don't feel that I am as big as I should be.......
Now, I know that every woman and every pregnancy are different but I started out gung ho...I mean at 6 weeks I was PREGNANT....if you know what I mean......couldn't wear my clothes anymore and was really pooching out. Then it just seemed to 'stop' growing.

Information, experiences, advice........I'll take anything.......LOL
Thanks,
Vikki

My advice Vicki, throw the walker out : ) It won't help him learn to walk, it doesn't work the same muscles. They are unsafe, besides the stairs, there are other hazards. Invest in an exersaucer, they are stationary, tons of fun and safer : )

There have been far too many babies injured or killed in those things. I think they should be taken off the market personally.

Besides, babies do much better when they have the opportunity to crawl, walk and explore on their own. Granted, it takes a watchful eye when they are on the prowl (thank goodness my 3 year old is a tattle-tail,lol "Mom, Tristan is getting under the computer desk!" or "Mom, Tristan is eating paper...")

Anyway, my humble opinion which of course you caa take or leave.

I know first time pregnancies are different than thirds but I started wearing maternity pants at 9 weeks because my pants wouldn't close. Well, it took until 7 1/2 months before I really looked pregnant. And I didn't feel anything till 19 weeks. My friend was almost 22 weeks before she felt anything. Don't do a number on yourself. Each pregnancy is different. I hope your appt. will put your mind to ease but I'm sure everything is fine.

Well I know they are banned in Canada but yes of course they are still floating around..by hand me downs and stuff , alot of the stuff is use your head kind of thing...
I have the exersacuer which is nice but stationary..I think the babes like the one with wheels since they can scoot around the house.

Im not sure but I think you mentioned you were (You can slap me for this) have a "little" padding... (me too)  I think it takes longer to show  and feel movements for us..(Lord help me if Im wrong)  I was on a fetal monitor for movement and he was moving and some i never even felt....
You are still early  so maybe in another couple weeks
Good luck at your appointment

ham-
dh is a cop

vikki-
ok first, i would have had a heartattack if my child came that close to going down a flight of stairs....
when ds was first getting around he used to climb the stairs (i had no way to block them off)  he would get to first landing and then start crying because he didn't know how to get back down...my mom had a fit when she called one day and asked what i was doing and i said teaching brayden how to slide down the stairs backwards on his tummy, but i figured i couldn't keep him off the stairs i might as well teach him how to get down.

oh and about your belly size....maybe the baby is sitting deep in your abdomen?

You made me laugh.
Actually I lost all my baby weight from Talon by 2 months PP. I WAS back to 125 @ 5'6...I think I'm 'thick' but everyone else feels the need to tell me I'm too skinny and need to eat....lol
I would have 'thought' I would have felt something by now but I'm not letting my 'concern' really get to me. If I was overly worried I could get a same day appt at anytime but I figured since I had an appt coming up (today) that I would just wait, I guess in the back of my mind I KNEW it was too soon.
Can't wait to hear the heartbeat again though.
Would love an u/s today as well but I don't know if she will do it today or wait until my next appt at 20 1/2 or 21 weeks. Which would show her more of what she is looking for anyway.....I know they don't just do them to show mom and dad the sex of the baby.....lol. Don't we all wish.

Was it you that said you were surprised that so many of us know the sex??? Did you not want to know?

by nanakay, May 06, 2005 12:00AM
well i'm sitting here trying to convince dd that she should take a nap and every time i say "nap" she smiles and laughs....like yah right mom, don't be silly i don't take those.

I have co-slept with both my boys. With Jonathan, I slept in a recliner with him for the first 5 months and then in bed until he was 14 months. With Tristan he has co-slept with me in our queen size from birth. I am a light sleeper now (I have a story as to why I am NOW, but that is for a later date, not child related!)

I would definitely not co-sleep if I drank, took meds, or anything of the like. It has been by far one of the best choices I have made, especially being a breastfeeding mom, I can roll over, nurse, then roll back over and go to sleep. He and Jonathan both nursed exclusively on the left side and I am right side sleeper so it all worked out well.

Anyway, just my two cents : )

How is your course going?
Okay I have to ask.. Have you ever dressed up in your dh uniform?
..lol......................

ROFLMAO!!
no i can honestly say i have never put on his uniform....he keeps it at work anyway (the department sends them out to be cleaned...except for pants...so that nothing happens to them)!!
oh that is funny

school is kind of a joke this quarter...i'm not sure the instructor really knows what he is talking about.  we have a group of 6 on our class that are majoring in natural resources and every once in a while they will challenge something that he has said and you can just hear the uncertainty in his voice. these people can rattle him so easily.
we have our second test on monday....our first test i didn't even so much as review...i had reead the chapters about 2 weeks prior to the test but that was it.....i only missed a couple of questions, if that tells you anything.

he drives me crazy...he is soooo slow to lecture and yet says nothing and then yesterday he wanted to hurry and get the rest of this chapter in before the test so he was speed lecturing.....and still saying nothing!
oh well, i'm taking speech and psychology next quarter...that should be interesting...haha

All went well.......I did NOT get an u/s this time around but I did get to go and schedule one at the actual X-Ray place. So it will be an 'actual' u/s instead of just using the little machine that they have in my OB's office....YEA!!!!!!!
My midwife said she wanted me to wait until as close to 20 weeks as possible though, so I have it scheduled for 20 weeks 2 days but may change it to 20 weeks 1 day since both my boys have appts that day and I will already be at the hospital.......get everything done at one time...lol (the x-ray place says not to bring any kids with you but I'm going to anyway!!!!!)

Anyway, hb was 147 and baby was running from her when she was trying to pin it down....:)
BTW, she says I'm growing fine and not to worry. So that was a relief as well. And movement,......she said not to worry about that either.....not until after 20 weeks will we worry.

SO I'M HAPPY NOW!!!!!! LOL :)

Hugs,
Vikki

I looked at the website about the cosleeping death, how sad and scary!

I've been using "The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper" with Hannah. I think this link will show you what it is.

Hhttp://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/602-0177537-4287809?asin=B00012CHFI&LID=p5239082&AFID=Overture&LNM=&LID=p5239082&AFID=Ovtr&LNM=&ref=tgt_adv_XSOB0001i,

I love the little bed and the side walls are very hard, so we can't roll over on her. It also has a little light at the top that I can turn on and check on her during the night. If you like having baby in bed with you, I would recommend this product.
