ot but i have to share!

i have to share if my comp will let me. i have tummy issues and have been trying to find out why.  we did an u/s for gall stones and it showed nothing.  my dr's office phoned and said we are going to do a different type of u/s that shows more end of convo the appt is made.  i show up and sign a paper my addrss and name is spelled correctly and i am called back.  i am told to sit down and the IV will be started.  WHAT??  it needs to have a tracer go in my iv so the camera can see. WHAT??? then i ask what about my bfing my dd (they never asked if i could be pg either).  i am told to not nurse her for 2 days due to the  radiation.  OH MY GOD, when was anyone going to let me in on this!! so  i left and decided to call my drs office tomorrow when im not so p.issed.

You mean they didn't explain why they were going to do what they were going to do? Hmm, I would have asked them to maybe page my doctor or something. If they weren't answering my questions I probably would have done the same thing. Good luck!

they seemed bothered that i didnt know.  i dont know who is respons for telling me, my drs office or the imagine office.  you would think between the 4 people i talked to one person would have made an effort to inform me.

You would think so! My goodness. Good thing you waited to speak with your doctor. My niece had to go to the ER one time and they gave her meds she didn't even need, according to her doctor. It can be scary stuff. Especially if they don't tell you anything. I hope you can get in quickly to see your doctor. Tell them what they were trying to do to you and ask that they see you tomorrow!

The scan they were probably going to perform was a HIDA scan, to check if your gall bladder is performing correctly.  The dye/radiation is to show how the gall bladder functions.  I agree that you should've been informed, and I would've done the same thing.  My friend had an ultrasound because she was having issues, and she didn't have any gall stones, but when they did the HIDA scan, they found out that her gall bladder was performing at like less than 10%, when it's supposed to be around 60%.  She had it removed this summer.

I would be upset too- can't believe no one explained it to you before going in.

I hear you on stomach issues.  I almost had emergency surgery for my gall stones that I didn't even know I had.  I hope you find out what it is.  Good luck.

I'm a Kaiser-Permanente patient, and apparently in my charts in some obvious place, it notes to ask me if I am still breastfeeding.  It's pretty funny, the puzzled ways some nurses ask, because they also see my age on the form.  (*Screwed up eyebrows*, "It says to ask here if you are still ... breastfeeding?????"  *Puzzled look, tongue sticking out of corner of mouth.*  Then the amazement on their face when I cheerfully say, "Yes, I am.")  [That was a few months ago when I was still breastfeeding,  If I get pregnant again, they are REALLY going to be surprised.]

Anyway, I am sure that Kaiser's method (putting it up front that I could be breastfeeding in a way they don't ignore) has saved me from all kinds of mixed medical interventions, or at least from having to be hyper-vigilant.  It's too bad your doctor didn't do the same thing.

I do have to be vigilant at the dentist's.  I recently stopped them from taking X-rays when I was 6 weeks pregnant.  They were gowning me up in that lead apron without asking, and I had to say (beeyotchy tone of voice) "What ARE you doing?"  Of course, I can't really be astounded that they would assume I wasn't pregnant, but it can be a nuisance.  If I weren't paying a lot of attention, things like Class C meds might slip through.
