pediatricians/insurance

hey everyone. i am about 32 weeks along and starting to think about a pediatrician for my little one. i want to use the pediatric group i used as a child and was just wondering when the right time is to call. in my child birth class, they said you should have one picked out so that they can come to hospital when the baby is born. so when do i call and when do we add him to my husband's health insurance? before or after he is born? anyone have any ideas how this works?

thanx <3

I live in Alabama & have bluecross&blueshield ins. So here u call your ins. company w/in the first few days of birth. I would first double check w/your ped. & make sure they r taking on new children before u go in labor & make sure your ins covers that ped.  And of course call your ins company & see what there rules r everywhere is so diff including hosp. policies reguarding peds. Good Luck.
The hosp. actually called my babys ped. when I was in labor to give him a heads up. (I didn't have one picked put so I just asked one of the nurses which ped. did a good job on circum. since I was having a boy :)

Hi
I deal with insurance daily for my career, and the majority it is okay just to call insurance co. to be sure the Dr. is on your list. Then you can just give the Dr a courtesy call to let him know you plan to use him/her.Not necessary, but nice to do.I actually just waited till my kids were born, but it would make it easier if you who you wanted before hand.
In additon,You should call the insurance company to tell them you are pregnant right away! Then call them with 48 hours after birth(depending on policy)Some policies require this, and you could be penalized if you dont.Hope this helps

thanks for the responses. my insurance company knows that i'm pregnant, but the baby will be on my husband's insurance, which is different. i guess i will just make a phone call to my husband's insurance to see when we should add the baby on his policy.

thanks!
