peek, Andi, GNicole - Anyone who had Gallblader(gallbladder) removed

I feel like I never had my gallbladder removed.  Right now I'm in such pain as if I had my gallbladder still intact and I was having an episode.  I'm bloated with that pressure under my diaphragm.  What's the deal?  I didn't eat anything fattening at all today.  It started this morning after I ate a English Muffin toasted and Jelly.  No butter or anything like that.  I had a tea with honey and splenda.  Nothing crazy with fat to irritate me.  Why am I still in pain hours later?  I ate lunch, turkey sandwich on wheat bread, lettuce, tomato.  I called my surgeon and he's in surgery, I called my gastro doctor who referred me and he's gone for the day.  So anyone who has had this surgery, is this normal to still feel in pain like this?

I've not had my gallbladder removed.

I've heard that a large portion of people who have had their gall bladder removed still have symptoms afterwards to an extent, but I don't have much knowledge in that area at all.

Andi said that she had problems for 6 months or so after her gall bladder surgery.

I thought perhaps you knew about it.  But thanks.  Glad to know Andi had issues to.

You might try PMing her--I know she'd tell you about her experience.

Miami, I had my GB removed on Feb 26th.  My surgeon said that it only takes the pain away in 80% of the cases.  He said that if the pain persists that a spastic colon could also be contributing.  It sounds like you are doing everythig right.  Just keep trying to call the doctor or if the pain is too bad, you could go to the ER.  I'm sorry that you are still having pain.  I have had issues with the scoots after eating just about anything, but that is about the only problem I have had post-op.  Please let me know how you are doing.

For several months postop I felt the same shoulder pain and discomfort in my chest, esophagus, and heartburn as I had before having it removed. I began wondering if I had been wrong and perhaps it was not my GB (we didn't do the HIDA scan as I was pg and then nursing, was actually nursing when I had the surgery).

Anyway, I was able to eat the foods I wanted without the major flares, but I was experiencing many of the constant pains regardless of what I ate.

One day it went away. I have random shoulder pain, but I was able to trace that back to picking up the kids too much ;-)

Thanks ladies.  The pain eventually subsided yesterday.  Of course I didn't eat much dinner, some crackers and that seemed to help.  I guess I should expect some pain after the fact.  I did know it was gallstones since they did a sono but it crossed my mind that they left a stone in there...lol.

Sorry Jezi! I missed this yesterday! I know you know this already now but I wanted to respond. I felt like this on and off for a year or two afterward.I even went to the ER once the pain was so bad. It should get better but it takes a long time. If the episodes keep happening I would want to be seen to make sure there isn't a stone left in there! Good luck girlie!

I had my gall bladder removed 8 years ago.  Directly after the surgery and for about 6 months I had no symptoms.  After that about every 3 months or so I get what I have heard it refered to as phantom pains.  It is no where near as bad a a full blown attack, it lasts for several hours, and feels somewhat like bad bad indigestion in the back and mid stomach.  dont get me wrong, it does hurt pretty bad, just not like it did when i was having an attack.  Hopefully that is all that it is.  I would keep track of them if you are getting them frequently, or just as bad as before the surgery incase that is not what it is.  Oh and it didnt matter what I ate.  Sometimes it would happen first thing in the am before I ate anything.

Thanks again ladies.  Yeah, I will keep track of it.  It felt like extreme gas pressure.  Heck, maybe that's what it was but it felt close to what I felt when I had my gallbladder issues.
