I don't know all the risks, but Clomid is prescibed a lot and has been around for at least 40 yrs that I know of, since my mother had it prescribed way back in the 60s. It's main benefit is it gets your body to ovulate. Side effects vary by person. If you don't get pregnant within several cycles (3-6 months) depending on your dr they'll have you go off & then start up again if you want to, that's to give your body a break from it. I found each time I started up the first month I'd have some hot flashes, and sore breasts for a week or more before AF. Then the side effects would decrease with each cycle.
There is a higher incidence of mulitiple births (twins etc) using Clomid. I don't know if it's a big increase or not but it is something to keep in mind. Good luck!
I did my first cycle of clomid this month 50mg, and I didn't have the side effects I read and hear about, but I did have painful ovulation and intercourse. Af is late, but bfn! Also, prior, I was on bcp for 10 years and my ovaries needed a jump start!
Hi. I was on clomid for 3 cycles (once with a shot right before ovulation). I don't recall any major side effects. i felt okay with it and with each cycle i ovulated either 2 or 3 eggs. it didn't work after 3 cycles and my dr. said that usually if it's going to work it'll work one of the first 3 times so he switched me to letrazole (it's a medication used off-label - it's on label use is for postmenopausal women with breast cancer)- but my dr.s been using it for a while for use like clomid - he says sometimes people don't respond to clomid and will to this. I do hope though that the clomid works for you very soon. Don't worry too much about the clomid - lots of people use it.
