I think if it's bothering him that much, you should, as you mentioned, call the doctor at home or go to a clinic or hospital. Two days is a long time to wait for the littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys one.
Take your son to the ER, you never want to fool around with genitals. It could be a reaction for the meds and it could be a yeasr infection, still you need to find out what it is so that it can be treated fast. Also if he is having that kind of a reaction the Dr's may want to put him on different med, that way he won't be in so much pain when he's in a diaper. Take him in ASAP.
I agree, he should be seen sooner than Monday. In the meantime, follow these simple things to give him some relief:
Don't use wipes, instead rinse him off with lukewarm water in the tub. Even better is to make a solution of baking soda water and clean him with that as regular water alone may sting a little.
Allow him to run naked as much a possible. Allowing exposure to the air will help tremendously. We sacrificed our hardwood and carpet when my 2 year old was battling nasty diaper rashes a year ago.
If it is yeast (you can usually tell by reddened areas in the folds with a bit of a white or yellow substance within) most likely the doctor will suggest an OTC yeast treatment like lotrimin or nystantin (sp). Applying this 3 times a day is usually the treament. My youngest developed yeast "pockets" while I was on antibiotics for mastitis recently. I just kept the area clean and applied the lotrimin cream a couple times and they cleared right up. So rest assured if it is yeast, it should clear up really quickly with treatment.
Try to let him go naked for awhile. If he will eat it, give him some yogurt. Bathe him in a luke warm bath of epsom salts or oatmeal or baking soda. That should ease the itching. Wash your hands thoroughly after EVERY diaper change and wash his hands EACH and EVERY time he touches himself. If you decide not to go to the ER or the Dr (which is probably not necessary unless YOU feel the need to go-which you will know when/if it's time), you should make it it a point for the weekend just making him comfortable and keeping him from scratching down there.
