From what my sister-in-law told me (she has had 2 pregnancies, the last in December gave birth to twins).  It can take up to 6 months.  I do recall when she was visiting us with her first one, she was spotting a lot but did not have a "real" period for several months.

I have had it take up to 2 months after quitting breastfeeding to start. I always breastfeed for 10-14 months and I never start right when I quit.
