pregnant with pneumonia

by AEBRN, Jul 29, 2007 07:06PM
I have been diagnosed with pneumonia since July 20. They could not do a xray since I am 10weeks. I had a fever of 102.3 which i took tylenol for to keep it down but I had to take it every 4 hours for 3 days since my fever stayed elevated. I am so tired still and coughing. Temp max today 99.1, Has anyone ever had pneumonia while pregnant and what did they do to get better quicker? All I am on is Delysm cough syrup and Omnicef ( antibiotic).

I did have pneumonia but not while pregnant and was hospitalized and was on really heavy IV antibiotics for about a week and thats what got ride of mine.  I don't know if they can give you any good antibiotics while pregnant but I don't assume it is too healthy for the baby.  I would do whatever your doctor recommends... but really the only way to get ride of it is antibiotics and you dont want to let it go too long without doing anything about it or you could get to much fluid in your lungs and it could become really bad for both of you.

I was 20 weeks when I got pneumonia. Antibiotics, albuterol inhaler, and robitussin was what I was prescribed. Also, sudafed 1 pill every 6 hrs (the 30 mg dosage). Also, use a cool mist humidifier and drink lots and lots of liquids. I also used a little vicks vapor rub on my chest. It really helped me breathe better. Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery.

I just got diagnosed with pneumonia. My doctor had me get a chest xray and put me on an albuterol inhalor and antibiotics. I am 9 1/2 weeks pregnant. He said this is all safe at my current time in pregnancy.
i sleep with a humidifier and that Vicks vapor rub reallllly helps.

i am scared about having gotten that xray. the doctor said it was fine to get but i dont want to have hurt the baby....

my next appointment is Sept. 11...for my 12 week check-up, im so nervous.

I have just been diagnosed with pneumonia.  I am 17 weeks pregnant and after 5 days in hospital on iv penicillin 4 x daily and oxygen, I am now home on oral penicillin 4 x daily for another 6 days.  I also had an xray using the lead apron to protect baby.  I believe there is still a risk the baby gets a small amount of radiation although the doctors were not concerned about the 'small' risk to baby.

I am due to see the consultant in clinic in about 6-8 weeks when they would usually xray again as a matter of routine but because xrays are not advisable during pregnancy, provided I am feeling well they will wait until after baby is born to xray me again.

All in all, the doctors have treated me with the pregnancy in mind and have not used anything that would compromise the pregnancy in any way.  It is however a worry, when you feel so ill you cannot help but wonder how this will affect your unborn baby.
