pregnant with triplets

pregnant with triplets

I have a set of triplets all girls, and i have an issue where i think i could have been pregnant by two differant guys could this really happen? I had sex with the guys three days apart. I figured once you were pregnant you couldn't get pregnant again. So does anyone know of anyone who went through this and had a paternity test and came out to be pregnant by two differant guys?

ummm just about 100% sure this can not happen..... the only way you could get preg from 2 guys is if you were inseminated and the doctor messed up.

I don't know of it personally, but in theory it's possible.  You could release an egg from each ovary and they would have been fertilized from whatever sperm was there.

Are any of the babies twins?  Or did you have three independent eggs?

they were each in it's own sac. But two of them look exactly alike and the other one looks like one of the guys i was with.

what does your doctor say?  I don't think its possible but crazier things have happend.

If they were each in their own sack then you had three independent eggs.  That's pretty darn rare!  All you can do now is perform paternity tests, because in theory it's possible they have different fathers.  I believe that when you release eggs out of each ovary it does not happen simultaneously - it happens a day or so apart.

Yes, it is possible.  It's rare but possible.  IWantToBeAMom is right about when the eggs are released.  You'll have to do DNA testing to know for sure.

Among fraternal twins, in rare cases, the eggs are fertilised at different times with two or more acts of sexual intercourse, either within one menstrual cycle (superfecundation) or, even more rarely, later on in the pregnancy (superfetation). This can lead to the possibility of a woman carrying fraternal twins with different fathers (that is, half-siblings). One 1992 study estimates that the frequency of heteropaternal superfecundation among dizygotic twins whose parents were involved in paternity suits was approximately 2.4%; see the references section, below, for more details.

I agree that it's rare, but possible. Keep in mind, though, that if three separate eggs were fertilized, your triplets won't necessarily look alike. It's just like any other siblings. I look alot like one of my brothers, resemble my other brother, but look nothing at all like my sister. We may joke that she's the mailman's baby, but we all have the same mother and father. If you have doubts though, you should get a paternity test.

Yes it is possible.  I have seen cases on Discovery Health Channel where a mother gave birth to twins.  One was black and the other was white.  Upon DNA testing, it was revealed that they each had a different father -- one black one white.

I know this is an odd comparison, but my cat got out while I was out of town, and she got pregnant by 2 different male cats.  2 of the kittens looked identical to the one father,  2 to the other, and the last 2 looked just like her.

The point is, that when you release multiple eggs -- whether animal or human -- and have multiple sex partners, it is possible to have eggs fertilized by different ones.

Have you done the DNA testing yet?

Good luck,

Amanda

So your daughters have already been born?  It is possible, not likely but possible.  Are you sure that you have the right father for any of the triplets.  I guess only a dna test will tell you for sure....

There was a huge paternity test about 7-10 years ago and this happened to a lady I think in Ca.  The father was sueing her for custody and when they did the paternity test on the twins only one was his.  The other father of course teamed up with the other guy and they won custody of these children. There were other issues involved and I can't remember what it was over.  However if you do some research it was all over the news.

Well one of my daughter's looks like one of the guys i was with and the other two sort of look like me but also favor the other guy i was with. I'm really praying that they are just by one guy. One guy is Hispanic and the other guy is Black and i still cannot tell whose they are. Neither guys are really involved and the hispanic guy knows the situation but the black guy doesn't.  The hispanic guy is trying to get a praternity test which is good i just don't want him to be the father of only one of the girls. I really hope they are all his.

I did actually see that -- it was very interesting, but that is not the case I was talking about.  That is a manmade error.  I found this info that deals with some of what I saw.

"Not only is it possible for fraternal twins to have different fathers, it has actually happened. There's even a medical term for it: superfecundation. The classic case, which is discussed in Williams Obstetrics (1980), was recorded in 1810 by John Archer, the first doctor to receive a medical degree in the United States.  woman had both a white and a black lover, and she became pregnant and gave birth to twins, one white and the other mulatto. Each twin had a different father.  This is called superfecundation. It happens when the mother ovulates more than one egg and has more than one partner during her fertile period. One egg is fertilized with sperm from one partner, and the other egg from sperm of the second partner. These types of twins are always fraternal or dizygotic. Other cases have been reported since."

The other interesting thing I saw on a show called "I am my own twin".  I think it was Discovery or Discovery health (I watch far too much of this stuff -- lol).  Anyway, it is about an extreemly rare (like 20-25 cases have been identified)type of twin happening called Chimerism.  With chimerism shortly after 2 eggs are fertilized by two seperate sperm, they join together.  They merge completely into one cell.  The child is sometimes born normal, and other times there are complications.  The show told how some of the cases resulted in hermaphrodites (male and female genitalia).  The very weirdest part on there dealt with a baby that had a stomach that looked like a checkerboard of tan and brown skin.  They had footage of the baby.  It was quite mind blowing.

There was one woman on the show who was going through a custody trial and had to have paternity tests done on her children she had two or three and one on the way.  The tests came back with rather weird results.  It showed that she was not the mother of any of the children.  The courts accused her of being a surrogate mother and keeping the children and countless other things.  They decided to hold off on anyting until the baby was born.  They had someone in the delivery room take a blood sample from both the mother and the baby as soon as it was born.  It came back with the same results.  This baby was not hers either.  Luckilly someone -- I believe a court reporter -- had seen a study in a medical journal about Chimeria.  The judge postponed any further legal action to allow the lady to persue this new information.

A researcher on Chimeria looked into her case.  They were able to link her children to her brothers DNA and keep the courts off of her back.  However, further testing was needed to reveal that she was in fact a chimeria case.  They took DNA from various parts of the body and managed to find 2 different sets of DNA in the womans body -- one of which linked her to the children as the biological mother.

Apparently when the two cells join, they combine in various ways.  If both had female chromosomes, then the child will be female, however, if they were male and female, then the child will be born a hermaphrodite.

If you get a chance watch the show.  I found it very interesting.

I looked it up and it will be on the Discovery channel on JAN 22 2006 @ 08:00 PM (EST), JAN 22 2006 @ 11:00 PM (EST), JAN 29 2006
@ 02:00 PM (EST).

Take care,

Amanda
