by aliwally00, Dec 06, 2008 12:04PM
i have asthma and was using my abuterol inhaler the first few weeks as needed of course until the other day my dr. found out i was using it more than 2 times a week and prescribed me pulmicort 180mg flexhaler 2x morning.  and 2x (evening). i am to scared to take it 4x a day so i am just taking it in the morning 2 puffs and so far so good. since i am in my first trimester (8weeks) i am scared out out of my mind to be taking this but i knw i should. any1 else out there have or had the same problem in their 1st trimester?

You should use your asthma meds the way the doctor prescribes them, or you could wind up with a serious problem.

Pulmicort is the only inhaler (not rescue, but longterm maintenance) that is 'safe' --I forget the letter code--but it has been tested. Check under safefetus.com  ADVAIR is not (tested). Albuterol is not tested--but my docs swear it is anecdotally safe and I had to use it a lot. I did quit the Advair (although for #3 I was on it; she's fine). You still need to have a rescue inhaler around btw--pulmicort's no good for that.

Lack of oxygen is worse than the meds if you have asthma, which can cause dev't problems, they told me.
