progesterone suppositories. Help please!

by brynn03, Sep 26, 2006 12:00AM
Goodmorning ladies,
I posted last week that I got my BFP! Well, my HCG levels have been doubling great and are now in the 5000's and I am barely 6 weeks. My progesterone was at 17 but at last blood test it had dropped down to 11. My dr. said that 11 is borderline being dangerous, she said she likes it at about 13-15 so she put me on progesterone suppositories at 8%.

Has anybody had their progesterone drop like that and still went on to have a normal pregnancy? Do you know if it is normal to drop from 17 to 11?
Thanks so much!

OH, also are there any side effects from the suppositories?

No, I have an u/s this friday. You took the pills? Are those better than the suppositories?

I don't know! Maybe some of the other ladies could tell you! It just made me feel real icky! My doc made me have an ultrasound before he put me on the pills to make sure that I wasn't having an etopic preg. or something! I am sure everything will be okay! Congrats!

Please don't worry so much about your progesterone levels. I myself was on Prometrium (progesterone in a tablet form) from conception until 13 weeks of pregnancy. Even on suppositories in the first weeks my progesterone dropped from 17 to 12. The Dr. explained that this hormone levels could differ significantly depending on the time of day and whether you ate anything before the test. The most accurate tests for any hormones are in the morning before you eat anything (some doctors don't follow that rule, unfortunately). My progesterone was higher in the morning too. A week or two later after 12, it rose to 24. If I were you, I'd start taking the suppositories ASAP and monitor my levels regularly. Good luck!

my progesterone started at 8.7 and i was put on the suppositories and 2 wks later it was 25.  I'm 8w1d and my ultrasound looked great.  I'm supposed to take them until the end of October.

My prohest went from 10 to 11 to 6.8 and then I started taking 200mg prog suppos 2x/day.  It jumped right up to 16.6, so I am sticking w/ them.  If you keeo them in the fridge they don't gets quite as messy, and take a little longer to absorp so stay around longer.  Also if you can wake up earlier before the morning dose tand lie down for a while afterwards, it helps.  I think you'll be happy you did it.  After a few weeks of worry, I just saw the h/b this monday!  Good luck.
