by kellym, Apr 11, 2006 12:00AM
Do you ladies get the quad test done or do you think they give to many false positives?

My nurse gave me the forms for Quest lab and didn't talk it over with me at all. In fact we didn't even know it was optional until we started talking with friends that recently had a baby. Anyways, I ended up going ahead and having it done. I realize there is a high false positive but it is only a blood test. If for some reason it comes back with high chances of a disorder we will NOT have an amnio done - just a level 2 u/s. There is no way I am letting anything stop me from having this munchkin.

level II is done at the same time..  I am high risk because I am 36, thats why it was done...

by JJety, Apr 11, 2006 12:00AM
I opted not to have the test done.  Too many false positives.

by AndiJ78, Apr 11, 2006 12:00AM
I,too, am opting out of it. With my oldest, we moved to another state early in my second trimester, by the time I got everything straightened out with insurance and stuff, I missed the window for the test. I had it done with my youngest and did nothing but worry until it came back, I will definitely go without this time! I have very low risk factors and saw my best friend, who is my age stress over a false + last year. My OB uses a level II at all times, so I know that we will see if there is anything there. If you do not have access to a level II or you need a + AFP to get a referral for one, I may opt to have it done. It is rare for a doc to jump to an amnio before ordering a level II.

Good luck!

Can I ask what the quad test is?  I am in my 11th week and haven't heard of this test... is it the early genetic test they are now offering?  My doctor mentioned a test like that (an earlier genetic test if we were interested in getting it done before the normal 16 week tests)... I am not considered high risk, but my dh and I decided we wanted to know if the baby was going to have anything wrong with it, not so we would abort, but so we'd have as much time as possible to prepare ourselves and learn as much as possible.

We decided not to do the early test and I have an appointment with my doctor in early May and we figured we could wait till that week to do any tests.

Sorry for rambling on, just curious if the quad test is the same thing I'm talking about???

Thanks.

What a cool announcement for the holiday!  You're almost halfway already - they will be so excited.  :-)

I don't have any suggestions for telling them.  Since it's a holiday I'd probably have a little 'Congrats Grandparents' cake or something.

Keep us posted!

we opted not to have it done because of all the false positives.  This is why we got the level II ultrasound.  we are not having the amnio either.  We felt strongly about our decision so the dr recommended that we have the better ultrasound.  Whatever you are comfortable w/.  at this point even if something were wrong I would not be able to abort, personal choice only so please dont anyone get upset w/ that because i know there may be people that had to make other choices.  Just wanted to voice my opinion....no offense to anyone.

OH MY GOSH, NOW I FEEL REALLY BAD. Well, My dr. told me not to go around telling people because I still have this old 7 1/2 week sac stuck in my cervix from a diff. pregnancy and they didn't know what was going to happen.  Since it has been so long (and I work for my dad every day) it is almost like a game. How long can I go? HA HA. Well, I am 1 of 5 kids, only 1 other grandchild and I did buy her an outfit that says I'm going to be the big cousin! I just hate attention and 22 people are going to be at my house on SUNDAY!!! I guess I will wear my shirt "Due in October" I really hope they're not mad!!!

by baby4Staci, Apr 11, 2006 12:00AM
Way to Go Kelly, Now instead of it being Easter Sunday, its going to be Kelly is Pregnant Sunday!!! haha.. I wouldnt mind.  After all you have been through you deserve the attention.. or you can take your niece (nephew?) into the other room and put that outfit on and make him/her walk out!! that would be cute.. :-)   Are you showing at all???? I cant believe you work with your dad and they still dont know.. you are good.. :-)

I like the idea of an easter egg with either an ultrasound pic in it or something silly like that. I was never that creative, I am horrible at keeping secrets. Even with my hx, I blab before I should. Props to you for keeping mum, that should be so much fun!!

By now this is old hat for my adopted mom, I will be having the 8th grandchild for her, #7 is due in a month : ) But my shining moment was givng my in-laws their first grandchild, their second grandchild, and in October, their third grandchild.

You have to let us know how it goes!! Another idea, keep a sweatshirt or something over your "Due in October" shirt until dinner or something. You could bring out the ham (or whatever) and as you set it down, everyone could see it!

How exciting!

Well, my niece is 13months and she will wear the outfit. I have an apron to wear over the shirt. My poor mom has been telling my sister, I really hope Kellie and DH have even discussed children (I'm 32). I'm trying to get in with the perinatologist for 1 more us, I'd really like to announce I'm having a boy :)
