question about baby aspirin

by mgi, Jan 21, 2005 12:00AM
Hi
I have been waiting for an open line for weeks now - wohoo!!!!
I had asked this question as in another place before but I really want some responses.  Here goes.  I went IVF  first time they said take baby aspirin pg didn;t happen.  Next time they didn't say it.  Pg happened.  I never asked if I should still be on it  (maybe they expected I was so they didn't tell me)  well got Pg  saw no heartbeat ever!  Drs ruled "non-viable"  pregnancy.  Did I cause it by not taking the baby aspirine.  I wasn;t so concerned until I started reading posts from people who had miscarriages until they discovered baby aspirine???  All responses appreciated

There is no set evidence that proves that baby aspirin saves you from a m/c. Yes, doctors are prescribing it, and in some of the cases of women that take it, they go on to have a normal pregnancy, but they will never know if it was because of the baby aspirin or not. It sounds like you want to blame yourself for the loss for not taking the baby aspirin, and that will do you no good. It wasn't your fault. If it makes you feel better to take it next time, I say do it. I take it, but please don't look for a way to blame yourself. It wasn't your fault. I am so sorry you are going through this. Try to look to the future. You can get pregnant and that is half the battle for a lot of women.

I must agree with above post. First, I'm sorry. Aspirin is used to increase blood flow to the uterus. I was put on it b/c I had been boarder line postive for anticardiolipids. Which is a clotting disorder..your blood is a little thicker and does show to cause m/c. However, pt's with is condition use heparin(blood thinner) injections during pregnancy..not aspirin. The aspirin is just used to increase blood flow. If you had done IVF your RE would have tested you for anticardiolipids. As for the aspirin it only helps in blood flow and you not taking did not cause your m/c. M/c's are primarily due to genetic conditions that are not compatiable. I've been there with m/c's then IVF with m/c's. Keep positive. You did get pg and that is a good sign. I found out from failed IVF's I have very poor egg quality was told to look for donors. We choose another round and I have a 14 month old and I'm now 10 weeks pg au natural!! Wonderful things can happen when you think they can't!! I believe my postive attitude in believing I would carry a baby helped me to this point in my life. Wish you well.
