question for friend...in need of help..

question for friend...in need of help..

okay so my friend is on birth control...has been for over a year.. well she had a heavy normal period during november...during the month of december she spotted between the 14-17th but only during the day...she also began spotting in the beginning of january for 3-4 days which was a light pinkish colour...she took a few hpt but they all came back negative...she had blood work jan 15th and the 16th it came back negative...her cycles have been normal up until december. she has admitted to having missed/forgot a few pills (but has taken them as soon as she remembered or with the next day pill) on a few occasions but none lately. She also during the end of december for about a week had unprotected sex with her bf and he hadnt been pulling out. Also, she tested for suspected pregnancy due to the fact of being nauseated, experiencing dizziness, tiredness, emotional, etc...We are now the 24th, she has not taken any pregnancy tests since the last blood test but is having some cramping since she spotted in january...however now is having dull pressure pain on her right side and will not go away... it seems to be a constant thing today and she is now about 2 weeks late for her january period according to the pill...

could anyone have any ideas, experiences or advice to offer...

thanks ladies:)

Sounds like she may be pregnant! I would have her test again. It may have been too early last time! Try again. If she doesnt get a positive then I have no clue! That would be confusing!

she is worrying about an ectopic pregnancy because her bf's mother has suggested it could be that...but cramping is normal in pregnancy....i had severe cramping at times...

Yeah it is normal. With ectopic she would be having pains that dont really go away much and they would just get worse and worse. She still needs to find out if shes pregnant though. She could go to the doctor and get tested for it but I think she would still get a positive on a HPT with ectopic. If she gets a positive and she fears it is ectopic then she needs to go to the doctor. If shes also having neck and shoulder pain that could be a sign of ectopic. Just have her test and get an appointment asap. Just because shes having pressure on her right side doesnt mean its ectopic though. It could just be her uterus stretching. Lots of women experience dull pressure throughout pregnancy.

I posted a question for a friend like this as well because she was having stabbing pains in her lower abdomen. Let me get the info that I got from my post.

I asked about my friend who was having stabbing pains but shes only about a month along.

(joy's response)
She needs to go have an ultrasound to determine if it is ectopic. If she's only 5 weeks along, I don't think she could be having ectopic pain at 5 weeks. All the sources I've looked at said 6-7 weeks after conception is when a woman is likely to begin experiencing those pains.

If it is severe pain, she needs to go to her doctor. I would have her call and let them know she is coming whether they like it or not. The doc will just have to squeeze her in. Then they'll go from there.

Cramping is a normal pregnancy symptom. But a stabbing pain could be a pulled ligament/muscle. Better to make sure it's not something more serious!!!

Typically, ectopic pain is experienced in one side or the other. I too have the same type of pains she explained, and they're just ligament pains. Unfortunately, they only get worse but it's a good sign that her uterus is growing. I would make sure her doc/OB is aware of it so they can check it out just in case but it definitely doesn't sound ectopic.

(joy again)
Well actually that isn't true. I don't want to contradict anyone or get into any arguments! But I wanted to make sure your friend understands that the pain can even be in her neck or shoulder, it can be in the abdomen, on one or both sides... it isn't always just on one side of the uterus. So she really needs a doctor to see her and determine what is going on.
