question for peek

by Pips, Oct 19, 2008 02:28PM
At 15 dpo's my hgc level was 10, my progesterone level was 5.  I do have a thyroid condition, although at the last test (6 months), my thyroid levels were ok.  In your personal opinion, what is the outcome.

Additonal info...  at 15 dpo's I had a very, very faint positive hpt and was told I would lose the baby.  At 18 dpo's I took another hpt with a very, very strong positive.  I called the exchange and the doc called me out prometrium, 200 mg, 2 x a day and will do another hgc & prog. level Monday.  I understand that I have to wait to see what the numbers do, but wanted your opinion.  I also have had 2 healthy pregnancies and no previous miscarriages.

Thanks so much for your help!

I'm afraid I can't add anything more than what your doctor did.  You are doing every single thing there is to do...you are on prometrium, have your thyroid under control, and have another Hcg and progesterone scheduled for tomorrow.

Either this pregnancy will work; or not.  I don't know the chances of either, and it really doesn't mean a thing.  Expect the progesterone level to be much higher, regardless, b/c you are on supplementation.  So you can't look at the progesterone level to be much help.
The Hcg levels will be your guide, and when they are high enough, you'll probably have a vaginal ultrasound to see what can be seen.

(prometrium will only help if pregnancy loss is due to a luteal phase defect...if the progesterone is low b/c of an abnormal pregnancy, chemical pregnancy, or blighted ovum, it won't help at all)

Please, please post back and let us know your numbers.  Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Thanks for your response.  You pretty much confirmed what I already thought.  I just hate the waiting game!  I normally have a 28-32 day cycle, although I think I ovulated pretty late in my cycle this time.  At least day # 19.  Is there a chance there'd be a luteal phase defect if my cycles are usually somewhat normal?

I'm not completely convinced my thyroid is under control either.  I'm guessing at 6 months since levels were checked.  But I do have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and we are just waiting for the levels to drop.

I will let you know as soon as I know more.  Thanks for your support!

Talked to the doc this morning ... he is doing another hcg level (already had the stick) and then repeat in 2 days.  Peek, you were right about the progesterone.  He's not even testing it.  The doctor ordered the results "stat" and when I asked the lab, they said the doc would have the results in 2-3 hours.  I'm so excited I will get the results the same day!!!

I will let you know when I know.

Please do post your results.  I'm crossing fingers and toes for you!

You might want to really work on your thyroid status.  Are you on the Thyroid forum here?  During pregnancy, you really want that under control!

Ok ... so the number is 89.  I did the math, and to double every 48 hours it would only have to be 60.  We are remaining "cautiously optomistic".  I will have another blood test on Thursday.  Is this ok?  I asked if it should be 48 hours later, and the nurse said, "he wants it Thursday".  He told me to stay on the prometrium as well.

I did ask about the thyroid, and it sounds like if the pregnancy sticks, we'll be looking at it.  If not, I guess we'll look at it after it's all over, in which case he'd want to see where my progesterone is as well.

So.......  Here we wait again!!!

Doubling should be every 2-3 days.  So you're fine so far!

I'm so glad.  Its hard to wait, isn't it?  !  I hope things continue to go well.

Hi, I just wanted to add... (To help with encouragment) My beta was 88 at 17 dpo as well which the RE said was a little low, he blamed it on late implantation! BUT I am 11 weeks now and all is well, baby caught up and is doing great! Good luck to you! :) OH and 2 days later, well not even 48 hours it was 300 so it more than tripled!!! Which was still ok.

Peek...

I second what pixi said.  You have been a huge help!

kikicoates...

Thank you!  I'm glad to hear it is possible after all.  This is such a roller coaster ride.  I'm just not sure how to feel so much of the time.  Positive?  Negative?  Scared?  Happy?  AUUGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!  I'm shooting for positive until someone gives me a reason not to be.  It's not easy though!
