recurrent miscarriage

recurrent miscarriage

I have had 3 miscarriages all before 8 weeks. I have one healthy son, 4 years old. I have had all tests done, including antiphospholipid antibody, anticardiolipin antibody, lupus anticoagulant, antithyroid antibody, toxoplasmosis etc. and all came back negative. Now i am 5 weeks pregnant. My beta hcg at 4 weeks 3 days was 3458 and repeated after 48 hours it came back at 4800. I talked with my doctor over the phone and he says hcg is not progressing as it should be and also that the initial level was a bit higher than the normal. Anyway he has asked me to wait for 4-5 days to do the transvaginal ultrasound scan. Presently I am taking aspirin, subcutaneous heparin, folic acid, and progesterone vaginal insertion. I am really worried. Kindly advise

I don't really have any advice for you but I wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you and that you are in my prayers. It is hard to wait until you get an ultrasound but keep positive thoughts. Maybe this time around you will be able to carry to full term. Hang in there and let us know what happens at your ultrasound.

I am really feel for you...I have had 5 miscarriages in 3 years, 4 of them only made it to like  7-8 weeks, the other one lasted until 20 weeks. As you probably know already hcg levels are supposed to double every 24-48 hours in early pregnancy and being only 4w3d that would still be considered early pregnancy. If it were to double it would be about 6900 or so. Since you have been through so many miscarriages, you probably know what is coming....i just wanted to say I am really sorry and you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Miracles do happen though, so keep us updated on the ultrasound.

You've been down this potential road before (me too....4mc in the past 1.5 years all by 8 weeks with no definitive reasons yet).  BUT....keep thinking positive and try your hardest not to stress....believe me we all know how hard that is to do!  Maybe since your first # was so high you had mulitples and lost one and now the numbers are evening out?  It is a possibility.  My RE says they should at least increase by 60% (not the full double that is usually heard) in 24-48 hours, but once they reach over a few thousand they slow down and double (or 60% increase) slower....more like 72 - 96 hours - so maybe you are right on track.  Are you sure you are only 5 weeks....maybe you are off a week or so which would make those numbers more in line with your weeks.

No matter what happens.....keep us posted and good luck - my DH and I plan to start ttc again next month so I need all the happy thoughts and prayers I can get too.....please try not to stress and good luck to you!  We are all thinking of you.....

Those levels too seem to be very high for just 4w3d. I have a friend who is at the same stage (and having problems) and her levels were around 517-650 at the same point. I will think good thoughts for you and hope that this one works out. I have only had one m/c so far, but I will forever have the fear now that it will happen again. I am very sorry you have to go through the waiting and confusion. I hope your u/s turns out okay. Keep us posted.

Hi,  I'm sorry that it seems as if you are dealing w/ a recurrent m/c but let me just give you a few #'s.  I too had 2 confirmed m/c's (possible 1 too early to tell) and now I'm 16w tomorrow.  My doc. has also put me on natural progesterone bullets (as I call them) and I've upped my iron levels (b/c low bp and O2 in my blood).  So, w/ this one I also had some occasional spotting and we decided that it would be a good idea to watch my hCG.  My numbers:
Dates            hCG          Expected Range (according to labs inour area-Canada)
5w 3d          17,285         25-7340                  @ 4w the expected hCG is 25-426
@7w. it was like 87,984 and then slowed down from there. I had some bleeding around 9w.  My suspision is that I may have lost one...I don't know if these ranges are the same everywhere but those are what I was given here.  You could give the dr./lab a call and ask.  Then you know...According to our expected ranges you are high and hopefully in the next couple of days your hCG will have still increased even if not doubled.  If hope all goes well for you!!!
