removing strawberry mark

I'm having a hard time trying to get my sons' strawberry mark removed but everybody seems to just wanna leave it alone. Does anybody know how to find a doctor that is willing to do this????

My mom works for a plastic surgeon that removes them all the time.  I believe that they need to be a certain age though.  It's painless, but kind of expensive from what I've heard.  Where is the mark and how old is your son?

he's 4 months, and its right next to his nose. Do you think if his pediatrician referred us, it would help with the insurance paying for it??(he referred us to a dermatologist and he said he couldn't do anything for it)

I thought they went away by themselves starting at 6 months or something. I could be wrong.

my daughter has one... what I have read is that they can do lazer on them to lighten them.. but that they do go away on their own.... luckly my dd 's is on her leg and is very small

I've always heard that they go away on their own.  Is that not what your doctor and the dermatologist told you?

why are you so worried about it at 4 months? it sure doesn't bother him.
if it's a typical strawberry mark, it will fade on it's own starting around 12 months. that's probably why the pediatrician would not recommend a cosmetic and unneccessary procedure for an infant. dd has one on her back, and it started fading shortly before 12 months. now at 13 months it's barely noticable.
they do surgery for major, deep ones that don't fade. i'm talking golfball sized. and even for that, they don't do it until 4 or 5 years old.

if noone is willing to touch it, you should be getting the clue that it shouldn't be done. i would be concerned if you did find a doctor willing to do it.

my sister had on on her lower back and my mom didnt do anything! why bother wasting money getting it removed and putting your poor little guy through that? It does go away, it mostly fades but it goes away!! My sis had it gone by the time she was 2 or 3? Im not quiet sure but it is a beautiful thing I think, I thought it was cute. I dont think you should worry its no big deal at all

Quinn had one on the back of her neck. It began to fade at around a year and by 16 months it was completely gone and hers was rather large.

My dd has 4 strawberry birthmarks.  2 of them have already faded for the most part.  The other 2 are still quite large, but since they are not getting larger, it is a watch and wait situation.  She is 4, and there are signs that they are slowly fading, but one of them is on a lot of fatty tissue, so it is a really big lump on her back.  If it is just a typical strawberry mark on his face, I would leave it be.  His doctor should be monitoring it.  I think this is something that should be addressed later, if necessary.

I have to say, I too have had strawberry birthmarks.  2 of them are gone, one had to be surgically removed.  The one I had taken out was not a normal strawberry though.  It had ruptured when I was a baby, and over time, it became painful and itchy.  It was on my side by my hip.  I didn't need to get it removed until I was around 16, and the surgery did hurt A LOT!  I would avoid that, if possible.  As I said, it was not the typical strawberry, so it needed to be dealt with.  Oh, and I do have a scar that is much more noticeable  then the birthmark was!
