rode a tilt a whirl...very nervous now...What do you think??

I went to a small theme park for children yesterday with my 2 year old...We went on all the safe rides, Like a train, ferris wheel like ride, slow rides..My mom convinced us to go a a turtle twirl ride that is basically like a  tilt a whirl...no jerking or joseling, but it spun us around a few times really fast and sucked me back against the seat...my 2 year old was terrified at first, but she was a good sport...It was only scary for 3 turns or so, the rest of the spins were mild, as we tried to control our turtle so it wouldn't spin too much. Honestly, I thought since it is a ride meant for children (all the rides are pretty mild, it is not like Disney world, or Six flags or any other BIG park, it is meant for children 2-12), it would be OK and I never thought to look at the sign at the beginning to see if it was unsafe for pregnant women, as I avoided even the small roller coaster they had and anything bumpy. I felt bad after I took my daughter on, I didn't think it would be so forceful that it sucked you back to your seat, but she seemed unphased by it after and she never got dizzy or threw up...I didn't either, I felt a little dizzy, but I had no problem getting off the ride and walking, I was fine....Then later on, I got really worried about the baby I am carrying, I am almost 15 weeks..I was wondering if this could have done damage, and if so, what kind?? I honestly gave no thought to it until later on, I got super worried I could have hurt the baby..again no jerking, just spinning around fast a few times..What do you think?? I am so worried now, If I could do it over, I never would have put myself or my daughter on the ride, even though it wasn't too bad, I am just a nervous nelly...can you tell??:) Do you think My unborn baby is ok??

Spinning is also very bad as it can cause placenta to separate. I would highly advise no more rides of any kind until after the baby is born. You're probably just fine, but I wouldn't take any chances. I mc at 12 wk from lifting something too heavy. The only thing I can remember was unloading groceries from the car. The heaviest thing was a 12 pk of soda.

Thanks, I wasn't planning on going on any rides or any sort for a long time...I was wondering what could happen, I was afraid of that...but I honestly didn't think that it would be too severe, since the ride was meant for children. I feel that I am fine too, but I have that thing in the back of my head that makes me worried..I will phone my midwife first thing on monday to check w/ her to see what she thinks I should do.

I think your fine.  My friend was 20 weeks when we took the kids to a fair down here.  She went on the small rides like that with the kids.  I stayed off because I was having a bad pregnancy in the beggining, but she's just fine.  She actually is getting ready for the big day I think!
I always joke with my husband and tell him I don't know how it is that I'm not allowed to ride Dumbo at the Magic Kingdom but I can ride in a car with him!!!   His driving scares the **** out of me!   I tell him that when I'm ready to go into labor we'll just circle the hospital for about and hour or so and that should work!

a miscarriage from lifting a 12 pack? what kind of dr would tell you that? if that were true, pregnant women would be forced to lie in bed, perfectly still, 24/7.

fetuses have survived car wrecks. they have so much cushioning in there, it would really take a lot to hurt them. your baby is fine.

now for everybody ready to jump down my throat, I am not saying that going on amusement park rides is ok. obviously it's not a good idea. BUT I don't think that this mommy needs to worry over 1 child's ride. if it's safe for a 2 year old, I'm sure the baby is fine.

Lynne & mommy-thank you, I already felt bad enough, I figured the same thing, and that is what my husband said, if a 2 year old went on and was fine, the baby should be fine...I don't have any reason to believe I did any damage to the baby or placenta, I have no cramping/bleeding, etc. I know better than to go on big rides like roller coasters or anything like that, but I really didn't think this one was too bad, I had a scary after thought though...Mommy-that is exactly what I said to my dh last night when we were dscussing it-women get into car accidents when pregnant, and often nothing is wrong w/ the unborn baby...I already feel bad enough, I worry enough as it is, but I feel like you literally can't do a thing w/o thinking twice about it when pregnant, I feel it more this time than the last (ei, 'Oh no! I had greek salad last night w/ feta!', or 'Was my bubble bath too hot?', or 'was that meat cooked well enough?', 'are these eggs pasturized:)?') and on and on and on....

I thank you so much for your reassurance, I feel better now, and I won't be riding anything spinny until after I give birth. Lynne-my dh drives like a maniac too, he goes like 90 on the interstate..I believe his driving a car is the most dangerous ride I have been on lately! :)

HUGE Colts fan here!  And I live in Bears land so boy was it a sweet day for me this past superbowl!  Bops where are you from?  I originally hail from Lafayette but lived in Indy for a short time to do an internship.  Now I'm in NW Indiana and everyone here loves the bears!

If you look at the signs at any amusement park, almost every rides says stay off if you're pg. They just have to cover their rear ends. I'm sure baby is fine.

And for tina, I agree that your m/c was probably not caused by carryng heavy groceries. If your Dr. said that, he is insensitive. If you are blaming yourself, don't. Most m/c just happen. There's never a reason or explanation.

That is exactly what happened to me...I think I worried myself right into a miscarriage!  Use your brain, don't sweat the small stuff.  Women have been having babies since the beginning of time.  Yes, some things can help prevent M/C, but sometimes, no matter what you do or don't do, nothing does.
Lovethebops~I am sure that you are fine.  Best wishes for a safe and healthy duration of your pregnancy.  If there was any unusual spotting or cramping I am sure that you are smart enough to go directly to an Emergency Room.  God Bless!

Being a Colts fan is far more dangerous than a tilt a whirl! hehe Sorry, bops, but I had to! :)

I think you are ok! My sister in law was "nesting" from about week 5 of pregnancy and used to rearrange the furniture in her living room by herself. Her little boy is just fine......a rowdy 1 year old! Plus she went to a HUGE waterpark and went down all the big slides when she was around 15 weeks...I wouldn't sweat the tilt a whirl ordeal in the least! :) Take a chill pill! lol

The way I look at it is.....with my first pregnancy I did absolutly everything by the books.  No caffiene, wouldn't go on a boat cause I was afraid it was too bumpy.  I basically put myself in a bubble cause I was nervous.  Guess what...miscarried.  This time I don't worry about the couple of cokes a week I drink or the feta cheese that I LOVE.  Obviously I wouldn't do anything crazy but I'm trying not to sweat the small stuff.  My baby is fine and I'm just about rounding 3rd base now!   Just use your head and you'll be fine.  Try to relax and dont worry.  You guys are right.  Pregnant women get into accidents all the time and thier babies are fine.  Lots of cushining in there.  My friend got pregnant in high school and played basketball till she was 7 months!  She didn't want to tell anyone she was pregnant.   Her daughter is a beautiful 15 year old now!
