ryan is turing one Thursday stopping formula

This is so hard - stopping the formula.  I was on wic getting 8 cans free a month and his formula cost 26 a can and i can't afford it.  i put him on milk during the day and he is fine and loves it.  i give him one bottle of formula in the moring and night bottle is also formula.  is this ok to do.  how did other do this.  do you stop right at one year?

I did stopped at one year.  What I did was I started to wean him off formula a couple weeks before he turned one, I would add whole milk to his formula to slowly intruduce the taste.  He did just fine.

My dr. said there was no need to wean because my formula was already milk based. I just quit at one too.

I have also heard you needed to wean because th proteins in the formula are broken down more than those in regular whole milk. Many babies can have GI reactions. I have heard 1:4 ratio, then 1:2 and finally just milk.

Wait, if you have already stopped giving him formula, why are you asking? How long have you been doing this?

I don't think she stopped completely...

Giving only 2 bottles a day is pretty close to stopping. Really there is no need to ask about the transition if she is already giving full strength milk all day long.

I see your point.  Who knows, maybe she just needed some reasuurance that she is doing it "right"

When I weened, I started by doing a little bit of milk/formula at meal times in a tippy cup. I started this at about 10 months. Every couple of weeks or so we'd drop a bottle until we got down to two a day, one in the morning and one at night. By the time both girls were 13 months we were down to a night time bottle and then by 14 months or so we were done with the bottle completely.

I mixed formula with milk for a couple weeks then just stopped the formula in all the bottles except her night-time bottle.  BUT - she is a very poor eater so I now give her a formula bottle when she is refusing the food (teething).  She prefers her formula over food but now that she is 13 months formula is not even enough.  I have such a hard time making sure dd is getting enough of what she needs.

I also bought Pedasure - she really likes them and if she goes without eating her lunch I make sure she drinks one of those.

I could not wait for the formula to end now I wish I coudl feed it to her until she is 5. haha
