short gut syndrome

I have  a nephew who is a part of a twin born 2 months early. Their names are Alec and Jake. Alec was diagnosed with necrolizing enterocolitis and is now 8 months old. He has been hospitalized most of his life and now he is back at Childrens Hospital because of bloody stool (confirmed). I would like to hear from other families who have children with short gut syndrome if their child was diagnosed with bloody stool and what the outcome was.
