sleeping on the back

sleeping on the back

Hi Andrea , you strongly recommended one of the memebers in this post not sleep on her back.  I had noticed that the bleeding that I had few days ago was while I was sleeping on my back.. but I am not 100% sure if that was the cause. What info do you have in doing so?

The reason it is generally advised against is because it causes the uterus to put a ot of pressure on the vena cava. That is the main blood supplier to the lower half of your body, including the uterus itself, thereby decreasing the blood flow to the baby.

It normally doesn't become a concern until you are in your second or third trimester, but it is a good habit to get into now so it won't become so difficult to adjust later : ) I am totally a stomach sleeper and that was the hardest adjustment for me (well, one of them). like i mentioned before, invest in a good body pillow, that will help you get comfy : )

When it gets uncomfortable. It normally doesn't take long ; ) I would start soon, just to get in the habit. Like mentioned before, get a body pillow, that way you can sleep more on your side, but still feel like you are sort of sleeping on your tummy.
